"Hello Havok."
"Actually, I'm back to Alex now." Mystique cocked her head to the side.
"Who's this?" she asked.
Alex stepped to the side to reveal a pretty young lady. She had hair as dark as ink, light skin, and shockingly blue eyes. Mystique was instantly jealous of her appearance, but refrained from changing her face.
"This is Celeste. She's one of us." Celeste lifted her hand to say hello and let a small smile grace her lips. Mystique looked at her for another moment before morphing into the petit girl in front of her.
Celeste was obviously shocked, but regarded the shape-shifter silently. She then closed her eyes and shifted just like the girl before her into the blonde model-esque form Mystique had taken before.
"I thought I was the only one that could do that." Mystique then shifted into her natural blue form.
"You are," Alex interjected. "Celeste has the ability to take on the abilities of the mutants around her. She's basically a sponge."
Raven stepped closer to the girl who had once again taken on her natural appearance. "Why don't you speak for yourself?"
Celeste looked the blue-skinned girl in the eyes and opened her mouth. She had no tongue.
"Celeste lived in some very dangerous parts of Vietnam working as a nurse on a U.S. outpost. Some rebels took her captive in hopes of gaining information on the base's defenses. When she refused to speak, even after weeks of torture, they cut out her tongue. It wasn't long after that we met." Mystique looked at the girl again. She was so small, only 5 feet, and looked so innocent, but her eyes looked old and tired, as if they had seen too much.
"What happened then?" she asked. Alex shifted and took the small girl into his arms, so that she could feel his heart beat.
"Celeste had no family to take care of her now. Her parents had died while she was overseas, car crash. She had no siblings, so I let her come with me. We both learned sign language pretty fast, and here we are."
Celeste began to move her hands rapidly. Alex watched them and smile at what the motions meant. "She wants you to know that she thinks you're beautiful." Mystique smiled and signed 'thank you' back.
"It was nice to see you Raven, but we have to go. We're meeting Hank and the Professor for lunch." Celeste smiled wide and motioned with her hands again. "Celeste wants to know if you would like to join us."
Mystique almost replied when Celeste hit Alex on the arm and signed some more. Alex chuckled and signed something back, which caused Celeste to flush in an embarrassed fashion.
"What?" Mystique asked smiling. She hadn't smiled this much in a long time.
"She wanted me to tell you what a great guy Charles is, but then I told her that you two grew up together," Alex interpreted.
Mystique chuckled but declined the offer. The three said/signed their good-byes and walked off in different directions. Mystique looked back and watched as Alex placed a gentle kiss on Celeste's forehead. She then silently mourned the fact that Havok found love and Raven never would.
