As the misty blue crystal rose from the floor, Bunny crossed his fingers (paw fingers?) and prayed.
"Please not the groundhog." He had said.
He prayed for the Groundhog, but he never considered the only spirit that would be worse than that mangy rodent.
Because, Bunny thought, of course not! Manny would never choose someone so blatantly insane to protect children. Jack Frost would never be chosen, he would just as soon kill a child than protect them.
The Groundhog, Bunny could live with.
Not Frost.
The kid was insane. Nobody knew why Manny had chosen Jack Frost as a spirit, let alone one with such an important role to nature. All anyone could do was wonder at this seemingly huge bout of bad judgement on the Man in the Moon's judgement.
It must have been a mistake. One of the rumours was that as a human, Frost had killed Old Man Winter and stolen his power.
Bunny didn't quite believe that, but it would explain why no one had seen Old Man Winter for a while...
Still, many other spirits did believe that theory, but whether that believed it or not they were terrified.
Even North. Even Bunny. Even Pitch Black, it was said. Even the Cupids, a giant burly man with a rifle and a tall muscular woman with a machine gun. Usually they were the ones doing the scaring, but even they were afraid of the small, skinny winter spirit.
Nobody had actually ever held a conversation with Jack Frost.
Nobody would dare risk themselves in that way, not after what happened to Santa.
North had been chosen to replace him, but haven't you ever wondered why North is so much different than the widely accepted image of Santa Clause?
The brave, or the newborn, or the foolish and stupid spirits still watch.
They all said the same things.
Jack Frost could change moods in half a second for the craziest of reasons.
He always spoke of fun. Once, Water Falls and Green Leaf had tried to stop him from making an avalanche. Bad mistake. He claimed that they were wrong in trying to stop him from having fun, and attacked.
Green Leaf had escaped, but the images would never leave her. Water Falls wasn't so lucky.
All of the watching spirits said that Jack was on the constant lookout, always wary of attack. Crystal Streams even claimed that Jack had seen her once, and she had barely escaped with her life.
Bunny believed it fully.
Plenty of times, children were found dead outside of their homes, frozen, with blue tinged skin and their eyes wide with the gripping fingers of death.
No, Jack Frost would not be chosen as a Guardian.
A/N Rewritten chapter
Note: First few chapters won't be that great as of 5/3/14. They are being rewritten. I expect it to be rewritten by June, maybe earlier depending on how much time I get.
