It was a dark night in Twilight Town, and it was raining hard. Roxas and Xion hadn't shown up for a meeting at The Castle That Never Was, and Axel was getting worried - could his boyfriend be cheating on him with his best friend?
Betrayal was thick in the air as Axel's slender frame parted the mist, the rain clinging to his clothes and plastering his hair to his face, making him shiver. Somehing was off, and as soon as he hear Xion's maniacal giggling and saw a crumpled body on the ground in the distance, he knew exactly what it was.
As soon as the redhead appeared, Roxas allowed his eyes to fall closed and a smile to cross his lips.
"Axel," whispered the blonde, reaching out for the redhead, clutching at anything he could. Their hands found each other, and Roxas squeezed Axel's gently, wondering why he looked so sad.
Axel could barely see through the tears clouding his eyes, but he could see enough to know that Roxas was bleeding too much to make it. He could hear Xion's shrill laugh, and her heavy footsteps approaching, but he didn't care for revenge. For this moment, all he was thinking about was Roxas. He wasn't naive enough to beg the blonde to hold on, and he didn't have the strength to raise his own hopes only to have them shattered. All he could do was watch his tears fall onto Roxas's pale hand, grasped tightly in his own.
"You know I love you, Roxas," he whispered, closing his eyes tight against the painful reality that the only person he had ever loved was about to be taken from him.
Roxas opened his mouth to say something, but was silenced by Xion's boot-clad foot kicking him in the side of the head. His blue eyes widened in shock, then his wounded body disappeared into black smoke. Axel cried out helplessly, clutching at the place where Roxas had been moments before, overwhelmed by misery and shock. He knew they'd have to part one day, he just had no idea it would be so soon... and so sudden.
He left a small but strong hand grip his hair and pull his head back. His green eyes met demonic blue ones, and Xion smiled wickedly down at him. "If I can't have him," she smirked, "Then neither can you."
