Her Story

Chapter 1

Joe March was quietly sitting under the big willow tree in her front yard confining herself to the book in which she was currently reading. Her hair was pulled back in a bun and for once she was very pleased to say that her dress was in an acceptable condition. It was springtime, birds were singing cheerfully in their nests, the grass was green and lush again, and the sky was blue with only a few patches of silky white clouds in sight.

Joe closed her book, using her finger as the bookmark and gazed up to the universe with the whole world in front of her. How she wished her boy Teddy could be here with her, but he was off in Europe with his grandfather Mr. Laurence.

Though Joe was not a young girl anymore but a young lady at the age of fifteen, she knew very well that all her childish games and tactics should be stopped, but how could she when she would always be a kid a heart.

It's so unfair, Amy's still a kid and she acts all mature and-, A sudden movement behind her made her unable to finish her thought. She turned around to find her sister Beth shyly smiling up at her. "I didn't want to disturb you." Beth said quietly, almost a little too quietly that you would have had a hard time making out what she said. Beth had always been the quiet one in the family, the saint of the four March children; she had always been petted and cooed at as a baby. Yet none of the other girls despised her for it, for they also petted and treated Beth like an angel for she deserved it, but no one did like Joe. Joe and Beth had a special relationship that went farther than a sister-sister one, but as friends.

Though very unlike each other in terms of physical and personal attributes, (for Joe was loud and wild as the wind, while list Beth was quiet and well mannered) they were both the same at heart. The looked out for everyone and could not stay mad at anyone longer than a second.

"It's okay, I'm finished." Joe replied in a faded and depressed tone.

"Thinking about Teddy, Joe?" Beth asked in her shy manner.

"Yes, I'm afraid so, my boy hasn't been away longer than a week from me. But sadly I have come to the conclusion, that one day we eventually will have to part, and move on with our lives." She replied as she turned away from her sister.

After a moment or two of either sister not saying anything Joe broke the silence.

"Why look at yourself Josephine March, getting yourself worked up about Laurie not being here." She turned around and gave a wreak smile to Beth.

"Say Beth how about helping me add on another chapter to that fairy tale? She asked Beth.

Beth was delighted as both sisters' linked arms and cheerfully strolled down the path and in the house.
