Eyeball Chambers looked at Ashley Rivers and smiled at her.
"You're nuts, you know that?" He said. She smirked at him.
"Oh, you know it." Ashley smiled, before she jumped into the lake. He sat down on the edge and let his feet sink in. She swam around, only in her bra and underwear.
It was her idea to come over to the lake for a swim, but they had no time to stop at each other's houses for bathing suits. So, they just went in their underwear.
Ashley swam over to Eyeball's legs, and pulled on them to drag him in. He tried to pull away, but she was strong. She pulled him straight into the murky water.
"Ew, no, Ash. This water's infested." He said. She laughed.
"Pussy!" She shouted, as he swam after her. They joked around and laughed loudly. It was in the middle of the night, and they were nowhere near the neighborhood. No one could hear them for miles, and this was how they liked it. Being alone. Well, that was how he liked it. He loved her. He really did, but there was no way she could know. Never.
They had been friends for a while. Best friends to be exact. Ashley moved in next door a month ago, and had mistaken the Chamber's household for hers. He answered the door, and BAM! They've been inseparable ever since. He even blew off the Cobra's a few times to hang with her.
After an hour, they got tired, and swam to the part of the lake where they could stand. Ashley sat down on the side, and stared up at the stars. He sat down next to her, and held her in his arms.
"It's so beautiful, really." She said, smiling at the glowing balls of fire. He smiled as well.
"Yeah, it makes you think that you have nothing to worry about." He said, not believing the words coming out of his mouth. She looked at him and sighed.
She loved him. She could never tell him this, though. He would never like her like that. It was impossible. They were friends, and friends only. He liked…not to be rude, but…skanks, and sluts. He was like all of the other Cobras, right?
"I love the starry nights." She whispered. He felt himself getting goose bumps.
"I love…" He couldn't finish it. "Um…them too." He settled for. She was confused.
"I love you." Ashley let it out. He let go of her immediately.
"What!?" He asked, not sure if he was angry or happy. Why would he be angry?
"I'm not hiding it any longer. Eyeball…or Richard, I love you. Have ever since we met, okay? You're perfect, and I just love you!" She explained. He stood up and turned the other way.
"Ashley…" He whispered. She got up too.
"You don't love me back. I knew it! I just knew it! Gosh, I'm so dumb. I'll be leaving now." She went to go put on her clothes again.
"Wait!" He said, turning to face her. He ran up to her, grabbed her, and kissed her.
"I love you too." And they shared a beautiful kiss underneath the starry night.
