Something To Be Happy For… By HPFangirl71
Harry stood under the blazing orange tree, looking out across the deep blue ocean. A soft sigh escaped his lips. The blonde man behind him laid a hand upon his shoulder as if to take away his heavy burden.
"Are you still sure this was the right thing to do, Harry?"
"It was the only way for us to be happy."
"How can you be so sure?"
"We would've been expecting them to accept overnight something that took even us, years to discover and accept."
"I guess so…" Draco conceded in a soft whisper.
Harry reached up to capture Draco's hand within his. They had both been through so much. Even the simple act of them holding hands showed just how much the war had changed them. It had matured them, made them see what was really most important to them. The hatred between them had kindled into a heated love affair that no one knew about. After the final battle, they had fled here to America. Here, they were safe from ridicule or harm. They could finally be happy here.
"Was it right for us to leave without saying our goodbyes?"
"For crying out loud Draco, how many times do we have to discuss this?! We tried to tell someone. Your mother, remember… she may have saved my life but it didn't change her disgust at the idea of us."
Harry felt the slight tremble in Draco's grasp as he tried desperately to hold his emotions inside. It was one of the few things that frustrated Harry about Draco. He never seemed able to let his emotions just flow. The incident with Narcissa had been an eye opener for Harry. Of all the people in their lives, she had been the one he'd thought would be most accepting of them. Her reaction had been truly disheartening. So instead they had come here to America.
"I'm sorry Harry. This is all my fault. I've taken you away from the people you love the most."
"No Draco… that's where your wrong."
Harry pulled him into a tight embrace. His hand caressing the back of Draco's neck.
"I love you Draco." he whispered.
He was having a hard time keeping his own emotions in check as unshed tears stung at his eyes. Draco always said Harry was too passionate for his own good. Draco pulled away to look deep into his dazzling green gaze. A tiny smile played upon his lips as he reached out to softly lay his fingers upon Harry's cheek.
"I love you too, Harry"
Their lips met and intertwined softly yet urgently. They were both lost within this moment of pure happiness. Again, Draco was the one to pull away. He looked at Harry with pure determination written across his pale face.
"We're going to do this. We're going to be happy together, I just know it. We have so much to look forward to. So much to be thankful for…
"That's right Draco." Harry interrupted him. "We have each other now and that's all we need to be happy.
At that moment they both knew it was true. Their journey to happiness was just beginning. They stood holding one another closely as colorful autumn leaves fell all around them.
