"Right this way, dear," she said. Annoyance poked at my heart as she guided me through the spa. I hated when people called me dear, it made me feel small and weak and brought back misty memories of my step-mother.
"Dear, maybe you should go to your room until you can tell us why you put us all in danger!" I would hear her shout before I slammed my door shut. I shivered and Hylla glanced at me.
"Are you alright, Annabeth?" she asked politely.
"Yes, ma'am," I replied as she entered a small garden. The only thing inside was a large, white mirror. Hovering around the edges of the garden were patches of strange, white flowers.
"Moonlace, dear," Hylla informed and stood me in front of the mirror. I looked nervously at my reflection.
I hated thinking about my appearance, and C.C's comment about my hair didn't help. At the moment, my hair looked impossible. My face was covered in dirt and scrapes. The only thing that looked normal, were my eyes.
I looked around and realized that Hylla had disappeared. But before I could call out, she reappeared holding a white silk dress.
Oh Hades… Was my gut reaction to dresses, or anything you could find in the Aphrodite Cabin.
"Try this on, dear," Hylla chimed. She flicked her hand, pink sparks danced from her fingers and suddenly, a divider appeared in front of me. She handed me the dress and motioned for me to change.
As I pulled off my dirty Camp-Half-Blood t-shirt I could hear zapping and the sounds of sparks.
"What is she doing?" I murmured to myself.
I was sure as soon as I put on the dress, it would become stained by dirt, but as I pulled it over my body the grime vanished as if I'd poured water over myself.
I stepped out of the divider and instantaneously, I was pushed roughly into a chair.
"You look lovelier already!" Hylla cried and she brushed something against my face. Her hands blurred around me, applying powder and stuff to my skin. Occasionally, she would tell me to close my eyes.
Hylla pressed something above my right eye, and at first I thought it was an eye curler like I'd seen some of the Aphrodite girls use.
Riip!
"Ow!" I cried out. Hylla pressed the same thing on above my left eye. Then I understood. I was getting my eyebrows waxed.
Riip!
For a few minutes, it seemed like pain after pain. She waxed my eyebrows, detangled and braided my hair and applied makeup. When she finished, my face was stinging. Maybe the Aphrodite girls were tougher than I thought. Hylla got me to stand up in the middle of the garden, and she circled around me like I was a block of wood.
"Perfect!" she decided, clapping her hands together. "You look absolutely beautiful!"
I smiled wryly at her.
"Now, let me take you on a tour. We have an amazing library I'm sure you'd be interested in!" Hylla beamed and led me out of the garden.
Walking out of there, looking like a child of Aphrodite, I was sure of one thing.
I'd rather fight a hellhound then get another makeover.
