The screams of rage and smashing plates rose over the sound of Regulus' whimpering, clinging to his ears and rocking back a forth on his cold, wooden bedroom floor.

Sirius and his mother were fighting downstairs with his father trying to keep the peace between them, well, no, he was reading a newspaper in his study which he'd made sound proof and also made sure he couldn't hear anything from outside either. Regulus had thought of asking his father to do that to his bedroom but never did, for some reason if he couldn't faintly hear the fights he got worried.

Footsteps stomped up the stairs and shouts were heard from Sirius who seemed to be going into his room, "That's it! I've had enough, I'm going over to James' and I'm NEVER coming back!" He yelled, slamming his door behind him.

Regulus' whimpering got louder and tears found their way down his cheeks, he clutched onto his ears so tightly it had begun to hurt but Regulus couldn't find it in himself to care, if anything it was helping.

His mother had continued screaming horrible things at Sirius, that he was a blood traitor and not wanted in this family anyway, Regulus wanted him in this family, well, no, he wanted Sirius in his family but not this family.

After a few minutes the sound of breaking glass was heard across the hall and in the other room, Regulus didn't need to look in his brother's room to know that he had flown out the window on his broom.

Regulus began to sob, trying to stifle it by burying his head in the doona, he briefly wondered if his mother and father new that so many things in this house were muggle invented but didn't dwell on it.

Reaching under his bed Regulus pulled a box out from underneath it and opened it quickly, he pulled out a ragged and ratty looking green teddy bear, and he buried his face in its soft fur and quietly sobbed.

It wasn't until later that night that Sirius even remembered his brother's broken face as he fled up to his room while he and his mother had fought, and even later still, when he was just about to go to sleep, that he realized what day it was.

It was Reggie's birthday.
