The Passing of the Ring by Eve-the-Charlotte
This is an old poem from when I first read The Fellowship of the Ring. So, this is my tribute to J. R. R. Tolkien and his awesome series The Lord of the Rings. Read on!
This tale begins long ago
Back in the age of elves,
And of orcs and dwarves,
Even of men themselves!
This is a tale of great deeds
But also of unspeakable things
For this is the tale of
The Lord of the Rings
It started long before this
But only part I shall account
For you, yea, for the whole telling
Would take moments too long to count!
The tale begins with
The first fall of the Dark Lord
Sauron the Great, and,
With him, his evil hoarde
The One Ring lay
Untounched for many a year
Let to decay
While no one shed a tear
Yet, once again, it was disturbed
By an unsearching hand
Who, when seeing it,
Eyes shone at the golden band
The One Ring was passed
Again, when spying upon the fool,
Sharp eyes caught sight
Of the beautiful jewel
Hands, seemingly tenuous, but strong
Strangled a dear friend
Because the desire for the ring
Proved too strong in the end
The wretched creature,
It was later said,
Would hide away, so that the light
Of day would never again touch his head
For many a year,
The leviathan was never
Heard, for a time
That seemed without measure
The creature, the thing
Had many a name
Though, in this tale,
Only one shall remain the same
Called for the sounds
From its throat stemmed
The monster, for this tale,
Is called Gollum.
Hope you liked it; it was one of my first poems. Please review!
