Disclaimer: I do not own Monster Rancher(video games, anime, etc.) or any of its characters. For now, I am just borrowing them. :P

Summary: A quick one-shot of Gray Wolf's death, kind of from his point of view. I changed a lot that wasn't in the anime(I think it's episode 26, 27, or 28 that he dies; can't remember) of Gray's death, such as how Genki, Holly, Suezo, Hare, etc. are not present here. Let's face it, they ruin everything.

Author's Note: Please read and review. No flames allowed. Also, I know the ending seems kind of rushed. That's because I wrote this about 40 minutes before I went to work, so...Also, Tiger/Gray Wolf may seem out-of-character. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers. :P

Brother, My Brother

It came like an arrow through his heart. Or…what? Something didn't go through his heart, but rather, pierced right through his crest. He had been defeated, he knew. There was no point in struggling to put an end to his big brother; Gray Wolf was so weak.

"Ahh, you have…defeated me brother…I..." Gray Wolf smirked, despite his drained condition. Once Tiger had destroyed his crest, Gray Wolf lost all his power that Moo had given him. But I still have some energy…He wanted to stand, to regain some power. Such a thing was so futile, Gray Wolf thought. Gray Wolf wanted to speak again. Instead, he choked.

"Survival of the fittest," he rasped. "You were correct brother; I was always the weak one." Tiger stood like a mountain over his dying sibling. He had little to say, putting on that fierce demeanor. Such a hard ass you always were

Childhood memories flooded Gray Wolf's mind. No, I must…shut them out. He tried but failed to do so. Those days were completely foreign to Gray Wolf; there was no going back to the past. He convulsed, the stark white snow engulfing his body. He felt cold. To his annoyance, Tiger spoke.

"I have not forgotten you Gray Wolf." A sad face enveloped Tiger, which was all too rare. Tiger never showed weakness. From the very day that Gray Wolf was born, Tiger drilled all types of survival tactics into his brother's mind. They locked eyes for a quick moment, then Gray Wolf as usual, avoided his brother's gaze. I hate your eyes.

Tiger muttered something under his breath, but Gray Wolf was too distracted with his own musings. His eyes focused on nothing; he focused on the memories running through his mind.

This time he was young again, and so was Tiger. He was crying, his food stolen. "Brother please," he begged, tears cascading down his face. "I took food from humans, and then….now it's gone." Tiger acted like he didn't care. "It doesn't matter now," replied the stoic Tiger. "You stole it. You're weak, allowing another monster to steal your meal that you had claimed only earlier." Tiger pushed Gray Wolf aside, his anger rising from the very sight of seeing his younger brother in such a childish state.

Gray Wolf only cried more. He would go hungry again tonight. Surprisingly, a piece of ripe flesh was thrown his way, and landed in the snow in front of him. Gray Wolf was startled as he looked at his brother.

"There, take that Gray Wolf. I just remembered that I'm not hungry." Tiger had showed mercy. Gray Wolf was overjoyed as he collided into his brother, what could be described as a "hug." Gray Wolf pounced over Tiger, wanting to play.

"Stop it Gray Wolf," Tiger commanded. "Stop…"

"I love you brother," interrupted Gray Wolf. "Thank you."

--

The memory faded, as did Gray Wolf's life. Where there had been vibrancy and activity in Gray Wolf's eyes, now they were only an unblinking stare. More snow gathered. Tiger waited and watched.

"Thank you," whispered Tiger, to no one in particular. Only the wind listened. Somewhere, the wind spoke, "brother, my brother."
