Twilight has been sneaking into the human world for days after she made the portal work at all times, and she had been going for longer each time. This has become a habit and she even spent a few days at a time in there when she was bored. Of course this made her friends worried when she would just suddenly disappear without warning, and be back the next day like nothing happened
She very rarely left a note for anypony to know where she was at any given time. In fact, she usually left no trace behind except some clothes, but nopony could recognize them as they were human clothes. One of the many problems with this was how she snuck away to go into the portal, because she would sneak away at any time except during conversations, therefore causing problems with her friends when she disappeared to Celestia knows where to have fun with her human friends.
Twilight was having another normal day in which she snuck away to have fun with her human friends, and her human counterpart. Today they had decided to go eat out at a new restaurant that had opened up in town named "Rosita's Diner", it had mostly American and Mexican dishes with a couple other cultures in there. They had go there for lunch, due to their favorite restaurant being closed for the day.
The day had continued with them telling stories about funny things that had happened over the years the had lived, like Spike being a hero in the Crystal Empire, and the other Spike just suddenly knowing how to talk. Speaking of Spike(s), they had long ago resolved to call the human Twilight's Spike the name of Newt, and human Twilight, Twi. Anyway, they had been having fun and talking for a couple of hours when they decided they were done with lunch and left for a sleepover, tomorrow being Monday, so she was staying for the night so she could have some fun before she went home for a project in Equestria that she had to finish soon.
Later in the day, Twilight and her friends had hit the hay for the night, and Twilight couldn't fall asleep, like something was wrong, but at the same time, her mind was rejecting the idea, because, what would be wrong? She decided to at least check out the portal to figure out what is making her feel like this.
She went to check out the portal, she walked, as she didn't see any cause for concern, as it was just a feeling, not anything solid. She made it to the portal, and felt it to see if it was working. That was when she realized something was off, she couldn't put her hand through! The portal was deactivated, and it was just past the date in which the portal opened again.
