He finds out from Kurt that she's broken up with her boyfriend Brody , and his next actions are blurry, unclear even to him. He acts entirely on instinct, on the fact that they are both single now, and that his heart has sang for her since the first day he met her. And he misses her so much since their break up , feeling so empty without her by his side, that he'd do anything to make it work.
So he throws a few things in his backpack, get on the first flight out of Ohio to New York , and shows up at her apartment doorstep, unannounced, but calm with the sense that something will happen now, with the promise that the uncertainty will end. They will fall one way, and there will be no second chances this time.
He knocks on the door, prays that she's home; a minute later she answers, the look of shock on her face profound as she looks at him.
He hesitates for a moment, before letting the corners of his mouth turn up the tiniest amount.
He whispers, "I'm home."
And a beat passes where his entire life hangs in the balance.
But then she smiles, and he feels like he's flying.
She smiles.
Because she knows.
