AN: No, sadly I don't own Inuyasha. This was just a little fic-let that attacked me while listening to the radio. Plus, I don't really like Kikyo, she's a bitch.
Breaking Point
A throaty chuckle rolled out into the silence.
Inuyasha's head jerked in the miko's direction despite his terrible wounds. The field was spattered with gore from the demon host that had been sent against them. Naraku was becoming more and more direct the closer they got to his castle.
This latest evil wave had Sango clutching her side and Miroku knocked unconscious. Shippo was trying to dig through the first aid kit to get fresh bandages.
Kikyo had watched the battle from a safe distance, enjoying the spectacle.
Kagome clutched her bow tighter, rage swelling up in her chest.
That bitch sat there without helping us at all – even her beloved Inuyasha! We almost died and she stands there laughing??
Something snapped inside the girl from the future.
Kikyo's gaze narrowed as her reincarnation stalked up to face her. The miko stopped laughing, but could not keep the little smile from her face.
"I've had enough!" Kagome growled slamming her palm flat against the other woman's chest.
The undead priestess stiffened and grasped the girl's wrist, her lips turning down in disgust.
Kagome's voice came out low and angry, a tone that none of the companions had heard her use before. "You've done nothing but give us grief and cause problems since you were brought back to life. I've been forgiving until now, even squashing my own feelings so that you and Inuyasha might find happiness. I even forgave you for trying to kill us both, but now that is at an end."
Contempt sparkled in Kikyo's eyes. "And what can you do to me, little kagami?" (AN: kagami: mirror)
A cold smile curled the lips of the younger woman. "Take back what's mine."
Wind erupted from thin air and swirled around the duo, stirred into a tornado by their conflicting powers.
Doll like eyes flew wide as what felt like an invisible fist reached in and started to pull out Kikyo's stolen soul. Gritting her teeth, she snarled at her assailant: "I have more than enough souls to survive long enough to kill you, little miko!"
The icy smile pulled wider, "Yes, but my soul is the one that makes you who you are – what you are."
Inuyasha stared in mute shock as the women he loved faced off. The pain from his many wounds faded from his mind as he took a shaky step toward them.
White light flared around the girls, blinding the companions momentarily. Inuyasha reached out…
An anguished screech made everyone cringe.
Sango opened her eyes to see the white light resolve into glowing points that scattered into the night sky. The unnatural winds died out instantly.
The sound of shattering pottery echoed in the now silent battlefield.
Kagome stood, her hands curled into fists, a nimbus of blue outlining her form. She looked at the frozen hanyou, odd lights flickering in her storm grey eyes.
A familiar sad smile curved the miko's lips.
"Happy now?" she asked. "You no longer have to choose between us."
She wrapped her arms around Inuyasha's trembling form. "And we will always be with you…"
