Okay, this is going to be a long author's note that you probably need to read. This is my first ever story that is more than one chapter, so please go easy on me. This first chapter is just a introduction of sorts. My other chapters won't be this short. I don't know how often I'll update because, as I've said, I've never done this before, but I expect this will be updated at the least every month. Lets establish some story guidelines.
1.) This is set in an AU where Peter's best friend, Elaine, went into Narnia with them, was present for all of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and is also a queen. I tried to write that story, but it was just to much of a bore to write a character into a story that had already been wrote.
2.) This is set during the early years of the golden age, before The Horse and His Boy. Peter has just turned 18, Elaine is 17, Susan is 17, Edmund is 15, and Lucy is 13.
3.) I am going to base the description of looks on the movies, mostly because C.S. Lewis doesn't delve very far into their appearances. Also, it is a lot easier.
4.) It is not necessary to read the books to understand this fic.
Without further adieu, here is the introduction to my story! (Please review, whether you hate it or love it. Either way, it really helps me write better.)
Disclaimer: I do not own Narnia or any of its characters, unfortunately.
"Do you have any appointments to attend to today, Elaine?" Lucy asked me as she appeared by the door to my study. I was currently looking through requests from Narnians all over the kingdom. It was tiring work, but it made me feel like I was helping my people and gave me a sense of accomplishment.
"No, Lucy, but I do have all these letters to read and reply to." I answered, gesturing to the tall stack of unopened letters lying on my desk.
"Don't tell me you wouldn't rather be listening in on today's council meeting than going through all of those letters." Lucy said mischievously. This statement made me look up at her in bewilderment.
"Why in the Lion's name would I want to eavesdrop on a council meeting? They are so dull, and besides that, Peter will tell me about anything of importance later." Council meetings were held every week and were, by far, the most boring events to happen at the Cair, a thing that Lucy was very vocal about. So vocal, in fact, that Peter made it to be that Lucy, Susan, and I didn't have to attend meetings, unless it was a dire circumstance. If it were anything else, both Lucy and I would have complained that there were no woman in the council now and we were of equal power as Edmund, etc. But in this case we were glad to be un-included. Because Lucy hated council meetings so much, I couldn't fathom why she would suddenly want to go to this week's meeting. I put my quill in its holder as she began to speak, curious to where this was going.
"Well, Edmund told me that the council planned to address Peter about taking a wife." I felt my eyes widen, and Lucy nodded in response. "I was surprised too, but he is of age now."
"When does the meeting begin?" I asked, standing as I spoke.
"In five minutes time. We can make it if we run." And run we did. It was so very unladylike, and Susan would scold us for hours if she saw, but we ran as fast as we could. We arrived just as the guards were about to shut the doors to the throne room.
"Wait! Let us enter first, if you please." I asked the guards. It was really a command that he couldn't disobey, but I, and the Pevensies, always used manners. A king is only as good as how he treats his lowest subjects.
"Yes, your majesty." the fawns replied, bowing before opening the doors again. Me and Lucy walked to the end of the room and set on our thrones: hers on the end, mine to the right of hers. To my right, Peter and Edmund were already seated, but had rose again when we had entered. We all set as one.
"I thought you two despised council meetings (as you so kindly put it, Lucy)? Peter said in a puzzled tone. He had one eyebrow raised, something I was never capable of doing. He looked back and forth between me and Lucy, waiting for an answer that may have been slightly embarrassing if Edmund hadn't responded for us.
"I invited Lucy, brother. She must have invited Elaine to keep her company." I shot Edmund a grateful look, to which he smiled in return to.
"I would question all of you further, because there is obviously something you know that I don't, but there is a meeting in need of being held." Peter looked at us knowingly before clearing his throat loudly in the direction of the table full of council people in front of us. "Shall we begin?"
If only he knew.
