"Yamanami-han!" Akesato said, surprised to see him. It was much before opening time.
Yamanami smiled softly. "I'm sorry," he said. "I wanted to see you. Should I leave?"
"No!" Akesato said too quickly. "I mean, no. Come on in." She smiled and led him to her private quarters. "So… did you need to talk?" she asked.
Yamanami shook his head. "No, not especially."
"Huh? Then you really should have come later," she scolded.
Yamanami chuckled. "I know, I know…" He looked awkwardly at the floor. " Well, I do need to talk."
"Hmm?" Akesato leaned in. "What about?"
"I… Seppuku. I have to commit Seppuku," he said suddenly, his eyes remaining glued to the floor.
Akesato was dumbfounded for a moment but then the words hit her full on. "What?" she demanded. "Why?"
Yamanami looked back up to her. "I'm… sorry," he managed.
Akesato clutched his shoulders and looked him firmly in the eye. "You can't! You can't leave me like that!"
Yamanami remained silent.
Akesato looked at him, pleading with her eyes. "You… you can't…!" She let go of him and fell on her knees to the floor, covering her face with her hands to hide the tears. "Run away! Do something! Please!"
Yamanami put an arm around her shoulder. "You know I can't do that. Please… don't cry."
Akesato whipped her head up and glared through tears. "Don't cry? Don't cry, you say? How am I not supposed to cry?" Akesato stood up and reached for the knife she always kept in her drawer. She held it up to her throat and closed her eyes, preparing herself.
"Akesato-san!" Yamanami immediately got up and held her hand back. "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like?" she snapped. "Why should I be left? Why can't I kill myself too? You're going to do no different!' She knew what he was going to do was completely different but at this point, she didn't care.
"That's not true at all! You have to understand, Akesato-san."
"No, I–!" She couldn't continue for Yamanami had pressed his lips to hers. She loosened her grip on the knife and let it fall to the ground.
Yamanami pulled back slowly. "Live for me, won't you? Can't you live for both of us?"
Akesato studied his face and then nodded with tears still fresh in her eyes. "I… I will." She could never say no to him when it mattered. "I just…"
Yamanami wrapped his arms around her, protectively. "I know… I know…" he said in a hushed tone. "But it'll be okay. You'll be all right."
Akesato nodded into his shoulder. "Wait for me. In the next life."
"Of course," Yamanami reassured her. "I'll always wait for you."
I know one of you must have gotten why I posted this. Right? Don't let me down, now! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!
