PROLOGUE - NEW BEGINNINGS
Castiel sat on the park bench, alone. He closed his eyes and sighed, content with the cold, crisp, night air. Sure, he could easily find a place in Heaven exactly like this, but sometimes he needed time away from his brother a and sisters.
"Excuse me, sir." Castiel opened his eyes. "Are you alright?" the blonde asked.
Castiel felt for his blade in his sleeve, even though he knew she wasn't a demon. But he could never be to careful.
"Yes... I'm... I'm alright."
"Are you sure?" Castiel looked at the person to the left and jumped up. He was definitely not human.
The non-human man in the trench coat pulled the blonde behind him and spoke softly. "Woah there, no need to be frightened. I'm the Doctor."
Castiel tilted his head and looked into his eyes. They seemed so... old. Then it dawned upon him. "Time Lord."
The Doctor's eyes narrowed, and he pulled out a silver stick from his coat. "How do you know that?"
Seeing the device, Castiel brought out his blade.
The blonde looked at the blade in fright. "What are you?" the Doctor murmured. He clicked a button on the silver stick and the end lit up a bright blue as he waved it around Castiel's general direction. "Oh, you are old. Very old. Ancient, in fact. Wait. Hold on! That isn't your body!"
Sensing that the Doctor meant no harm with his device, he retracted his blade back in his sleeve. "Doctor, what is he?"
The Doctor ignored the blonde and continued to shout at the angel. "You get out of him, right now!"
Castiel, getting tired of the British Time Lord, said, "I require this vessel to walk the Earth. He is letting me use his body willingly."
"Well, I don't care! He has a life!"
"Would you rather see me in my true form, so your eyes can burn out of your skull?" Castiel snapped.
The Doctor glared at him. "Fine. You can stay in him, for now. Now, what are you? How did you know that I was a Time Lord?"
"I am Castiel, an angel of the Lord."
The Doctor's eyes widened at his words. "An angel? I thought they were all gone. An angel hasn't been seen for hundreds of years."
"We... have chosen not to show ourselves unless deemed necessary."
The Doctor stared at him in awe. "So, angels are real? Actually, properly real?" The Doctor nodded, still a little shocked.
"But why are you on Earth? What for?"
Castiel closed his eyes and sighed. "My brothers and sisters never stop fighting. Something bad is coming, and they are arguing on how to deal with it."
"What do you mean, something bad?" the girl questioned.
The angel shook his head. "It does not matter. It won't happen for a long while."
"Well, Castiel," the Doctor said, easing out of his defensive position. "Rose and I, we were just going to go on a trip..." the Doctor waited for Castiel to catch on, but all he got was a blank stare. "Would you... like to come with us?"
"Where?" the angel questioned.
"Oh, we were thinking New Earth, the year... five billion? Give or take a few years."
"But my brothers and sisters-"
"Time machine. Remember? I can take you back to here ten minutes after we've left."
Castiel looked at the two hesitantly. If he would be back in only a few minutes... he wouldn't really be breaking his Father's rules. "Okay."
"Okay?" the Time Lord repeated with a smile.
Castiel looked confused. "That... is what I just said..."
The girl, Rose, giggled and stepped forward, no longer afraid. She grabbed his hand and pulled him further into the park. "Well come on then! New planets to see, yeah?"
