On top of a hill, in the middle of the European countryside, sat a small and wealthy kingdom. The prince of this kingdom was Basch Zwingli. He ruled it alongside his younger sister, Lili. Now, even if this was a small place, they were both living the easy life in their castle of a house. The prince was said to be snobby by some, kind by others. He had never really been taught how to be a proper prince, so he was just winging it at this point. But at this point, he wasn't very courteous or prince-like.
Being a prince sucked, Basch could testify for that much. All the princesses and other women were after him for his money and fame, but he didn't care for any of them, oh no. He preferred to keep to himself and care for his little baby sister. Lili was his whole world, and he only smiled for her. Even then, it wasn't much of a smile, but still. He'd do whatever it took to keep his little sister safe and happy.
Currently, the pair of siblings were sitting and enjoying a wonderful breakfast together in the dining hall. Basch glanced up from his food to peak at Lili. She was beautiful, as always. The younger girl gave him a gentle smile and nodded lightly in his direction. Her older brother started at being caught and looked down at his food.
"So, uh... How's your lunch?" Basch asked awkwardly, picking at his own with a fork. The meal was okay, but nothing he was going to complain about. Their maid, Elizabeta, was a very kind and cheerful woman. It would be just cruel to upset her. She'd been taking care of the royal family since she was six years old, and had grown up with Basch and Lili as their housemaid. Despite the mere four year difference, Elizabeta constantly used her age as leverage for everything.
Lili smiled at his question and nodded a bit, reassuring softly, "It's wonderful, big brother." This earned a nod from the prince. They both returned to eating in peace, until Elizabeta came rushing in the room, panting and flustered. Her hair was a mess and there was a letter in her hand. She sputtered out something in rushed Hungarian and presented the slightly crumpled envelope to Basch.
The prince raised an eyebrow, unsure of what she was trying to tell to him. He gingerly took the letter from the maid's shaking hand, turning it over to open. The seal was that of royalty. Oh joy, was it someone complaining to him and asking for money again? He sure hoped not, he hated those...
To Basch's surprise, when he opened the letter it wasn't what he thought it would be. It was actually an invitation. An invitation to a ball that would be taking place next month. According to the invite, it was a social gathering for kingdoms big and small. But, there was a catch. It was a ball, like, a dancing one. Were there any other kinds? Either way, there seemed to be an issue here, as Basch knew nothing about how to dance.
Lili glanced up at her brother from where she was trying to calm Elizabeta by soothingly smoothing down her hair. She noticed the confused and astonished look her brother held on his face, which made her all the more curious.
"What is it?" The young teen asked. Elizabeta smiled and nodded, having calmed down. She turned to Lili and giggled quietly.
"You two have gotten invited to the Royal Ball!" She cheered, clasping her hands together. The housemaid was most excited about getting to dress Lili up for the occasion. Elizabeta definitely enjoyed picking out pretty little outfits for the girl to wear. Said princess gasped quietly at the news and smiled.
"That's wonderful news!" Lili cheered, soon smiling and laughing cheerfully along with Elizabeta. They held hands and jumped up and down in excitement. Meanwhile, Basch just continued to stare at the invitation is disbelief. He ran a hand through his hair and sighed softly, why would they want a tiny kingdom like his to join? Then again, they were one of the wealthiest, size set aside.
Well, if they were to join, he didn't want to look like an idiot. He'd never danced a day in his life, so the only logical explanation was, "I need a dancing tutor!" And that's that he said, causing the girls to stop their celebration and look to him curiously. Basch blinked a bit, having not realized he'd said that aloud. Oh my...
"Right away, sir!" Elizabeta cheered with a curtsy before rushing off to contact the best instructors. This would be interesting...
