Regrets and Sorrows

Gabriel remembered a time when everything was perfect. That had been when Cas was just a Cherub, freshly hatched from his egg. Lucifer was completely in love with her little charge.

With shining eyes Luci brought the small angel with large, black wings. As Gabriel gazed at brightly, shockingly, intense blue eyes he knew he'd do anything for this Cherub.

"Name him, Gabriel. I named you and you were my vassal. Now, Gabriel, I am giving you the most important job in all of Heaven. Remember, a name is worth so much. It shapes who you are and your future." He stood there stunned for a while then he smirked. He had the perfect name.

"Castiel. He shall be a warrior and a Guardian." Gabriel's heart beat just a little bit faster, not that he'd admit it, when Luci smiled at him and handed his Castiel.

"Now, Gabriel, you must do for him as I have done for you. It is your turn."

Gabriel stood there stunned as he was given the small child.

"Mine? I can raise him? He's mine?" Lucifer gathered them in her arms and kissed his forehead.

"You were mine, Raphael was Michael's, and Zachariah was Raphael's. Now it's your turn to have a follower, a disciple if you will, to teach and love."

"Do not take it lightly, Gabriel. If you kill it or allow it to die they just might take your Grace," came a mocking voice from behind them.

"Zachariah! I will smite you, boy! Get back to Raphael before I strip you of your privileges!" Lucifer roared.

Castiel began to cry and Gabriel made shushing noises and slowly rubbed the little one's back as he had seen Luci do to the others under her care, because ultimately those that were her charges, that had their own charges, were hers too.

Like Uriel, Anael, and Balthazar, they were the closet younger siblings he had that Luci was in charge of.

"Bite me, Lucifer." Zachariah cried before he took off. Lucifer raged and glanced behind her.

"I'll be back. I'm going to have a little chat with Michael about his unruly charge. This is the 12th time this week! None of my charges would dare to show such disrespect to another, but especially to a higher ranked officer. You'll do great, Gabe. Castiel is in good hands, love." She kissed the now sleeping Castiel and disappeared.

Gabriel never saw her in Heaven again.

Now seeing a grown up Castiel, an embittered Lucifer, a self righteous pompous Michael, a stubborn, pig-headed Winchester, a hurting Winchester, and a jaded wheelchair bound Singer, Gabriel felt pain in his heart. He had failed. He had let down Lucifer, his most beloved sister and he had abandoned his first and only charge, Castiel.

"I have failed, Father." Unbidden tears came to his eyes and he wept.

This war had to end.

Lucifer . . . or Michael?

He didn't know anymore.
