Disclaimer: I do not own Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5.
Author's Note: Just a stupid little short I came up with. I thought about the security codes you have to enter to log on, and decided to make it into a little horror short. Enjoy the fruits of randomness.
"Oh yeah, I bet this is gonna be good!" Spinner exclaimed, almost bouncing in his seat as the computer booted up.
The screen turned black then brought up the loading screen as Spinner opened the disk drive and carefully placed in the game disk. The drive slid shut and the desktop lit up, bringing up the main screen. A window popped up and the rest of the screen turned black. The window asked for a username, password and one of those odd security codes. Spinner's fingers flew over the keyboard as he typed. The first code was 'take'.
The window minimized itself and Spinner squirmed in his seat, uncomfortable with the loading time. The window expanded itself again, telling the boy in red letters that 'The key code was incorrect.' Spinner frowned and typed in 'them', the new code that popped up. The window went through the same cycle before telling Spinner the code was still wrong. Spinner smacked the desk in frustration before typing in the new security code, not noticing the now ominous word: 'back'.
The window minimized itself and the black screen brightened slightly to grey. Spinner turned the speakers on, and static burst through. He lowered the volume to a more manageable level, and waited. Minutes passed and Spinner's frustration grew. He played with the keyboard for a few minutes, glancing at the screen every few seconds.
"Take them back."
Spinner froze in mid-glance, eyes frozen on the screen. A hand appeared, looking somewhat like Zemerik's, and was animated to look like it was pressed against the inside of the screen. A grin cracked on Spinner's face and he thought 'Cool!' Then the hand pushed through the screen and reached for Spinner. The grin vanished like it was never there and Spinner fell out of his chair, sliding backwards as he went.
*.*.*.*
"AHHHHHH!"
Spinner fell out of his bed and hit the floor, face first. He shot to his feet and grabbed the closest thing, which just happened to be his alarm clock. He could feel sweat dripping down his back as the seconds ticked by. He cocked his arm back when he heard the click of the door. The door opened, and he saw Sherman's silhouette in the light. Spinner lowered his arm, and Sherman seemed to notice the lime green digits moving in the dark.
"Just another nightmare, bro," his younger brother reassured him. He started to shut the door, reconsidered it, and left it halfway open. "Go back to sleep, we're going on the track tomorrow."
Spinner placed the alarm clock back down, hand shaking slightly. He was more relaxed now than he was before, but was still jumpy from the scare. He considered going straight back to sleep, but had to make sure of something. He ran into the game room and turned the lights on. The giant TV was still there, as was the game console. The computer still sat in the corner, looking somewhat lonely with disuse. Satisfied, Spinner turned to shut the lights off. Written on the wall in giant letters was 'TAKE THEM BACK'.
