Doors, walls and windows

By TeggieLady

A house has two doors.

Some windows.

A white picket fence.

A roof.

And a whole bunch of walls.

Walls that sometimes get too close if you don't watch them carefully.

But the house is always there.

It never leaves and it never goes anywhere else.

If you look out of the window of a house, you can see a patch of garden surrounded by a white picket fence. And if you leave, then come back five minutes later, you see the same patch of garden, and the same picket fence.

The whole idea is mind boggling.

But never the less, the Doctor plays house.

Not with Martha Jones, who the Doctor felt, had assumed they would at some point play house, but with Rose Tyler.

The new couple on the block.

The block of houses, each one with its own set of doors, walls and windows.

Each neighbour greeting them with a smile and a nod as they pass. Bringing jam and flowers when they first moved in. Not that the Doctor doesn't like jam, no as a matter of fact he loves it.

But what would he do with flowers anyway?

It's not so bad, working for the university.

He quite likes it, actually.

Moulding young minds with the simple excitement of science.

No, the Doctor is…alright.

He really is alright living in a house, with a job.

With Rose.

He just wishes Rose was.

She's looking more and more stressed, more and more tired.

Getting up earlier, coming home later.

Married life really should be lived by two humans, really.

Not one sort of human, and a 'working late' message on the answering phone.

One day, he tells her so.

Tells her he wants them to spend some time together, a night maybe, when she isn't at Torchwood.

It isn't his fault it turns into a row…ok, maybe he shouldn't have said that thing about spending more time getting her roots done then being with him.

Or asked her if she was having an affair.

She leaves after that.

Away for a whole day and night, not that that bits new, its just he always gets a kiss on the cheek before she leaves.

Not a slap.

After a few more hours, she's back with a pair of plane tickets.

She's quit her job and wants to travel for a few years.

The Doctor readily agrees.

Doors, walls and windows were never his sort of thing anyway.

It's a year today since I joined and on the 25th a year since I first posted. This short story was to celebrate, hope you liked it.

Currently posting from a Spanish internet café while on holiday, (yeahyyyyy!!)

Anyhow, WWMOU, (aka What War Makes Of Us) will be out sometime next month and will be a Master/Rose. It's a sequel to Out of Time and is all about what happened in the other universe, and the effects of war. Characters include, Master (Simm) Rose, Doctor (10th) and Jack.

Currently getting a clear story brief and doing some slight altering, but like I said some time in September.

Thanks for reading, please review.
