Angrily Lisbon walked towards her office and slammed the door shut behind her. A few seconds later, it opened again and Jane stepped into the room as well.
" Go to hell Jane! " Shouted Lisbon.
He just sat down on her couch and watched her as she threw stuff into the drawer.
Then she looked at him again. " Leave my office. "
He stayed where he was and didn't move.
" I said go away! " She hissed.
" I can't… " He whispered and looked at his hands.
" Are you glued to the couch or what?! When you don't leave I will. " She said and turned to leave. Quickly he grabbed her wrist before she could open the door.
" Don't leave… " He said sadly, begging.
" Oh, and why not? "
" Because I need to apologize. " He looked right into her eyes then.
" Jane you can't just come here and say you're sorry! It's not that easy! "
" Then tell me what I can do to make you believe me. " His voice was quiet.
" Nothing! You lied to me; once again you lied to me! Do you still expect me to trust you? "
" I'm sorry… "
" That changes nothing! You can be sorry for what you did though! "
" I am… "
" I thought we were friends. " She said quietly, with a big amount of sadness in her voice.
" We are friends! " He laid his hands on her shoulders. " We are best friends. "
She looked away and quickly brushed a tear away which was about to escape her eye.
" Oh, don't cry… " He tightened his grip. " Please don't cry Teresa… "
She shook her head and closed her eyes to stop the tears, but that didn't work.
" I'm honestly sorry… " He said, but she shook her head once more.
" You will do it again even if you promise you won't. That always happened and by now I'm sick of getting hurt by you. " Her voice was shaking.
Instead of saying anything, Jane wrapped his arms around her and pressed her tightly to his chest. A few seconds later, she felt hot tears dropping onto the skin of her neck.
Shocked, she hugged him back and rested her head on his shoulder. It was the first time she hugged him back without feeling awkward and the first time she enjoyed a hug.
" Believe me, every time I lie to you it's for a reason. I hate myself for doing so, but it's necessary. " He breathed. " One day it will be over and I will stop. One day when I don't need to protect you anymore. "
" Okay… " She responded. Actually she would've said that she was a cop and didn't need to be protected, but she understood his point now. From what he was protecting her, nobody else, not even a cop could protect her. And honestly, she was glad that he was doing so.
" I'll be waiting for that day… " She whispered.
" Thank you… " He smiled and they kept hugging for a while. " It will be worth it. "
