Aboard the Hogwarts Express

Kris knew they wouldn't be coming. They never came to this side of the World. They liked being in the muggle world. For one of them were a squib and the other a muggle. They felt humiliated in the wizard world. They were Kris's parents.

But Kris was a witch and had received her Hogwarts letter. So now, there she was, lugging her trunk behind her, as she made her way to the red gleaming Hogwarts express, through the bustling crowd.

The eleven year old girl somehow managed to push through and get on the train but she could not pull her trunk up. She tried again and again but in vain. No one seemed to notice her struggling with the trunk for all the boys and girls were pouring out of the compartment windows to bid good bye to their families. The people on the platform were too busy trying to spot their children as well. The whistle then blew out and Kris felt a bit panicked.

"What are you doing? Some sort of feat?" she heard a drawly voice behind her.

Holding on to the handle of her trunk in one hand and bent in the umpteenth effort to pick it up, Kris turned her head and saw a boy with white blonde hair behind her. His face was pointed and he held his head high like a prince.

"I'm just trtrying to get my trunk on board but it's just so big and heavy that I think I have to leave it behind at London," Kris replied.

"Oh, don't be ridiculous," said the boy, "I wouldn't bother but you are blocking the way-"

Just then there was a jolt and the train started slowly with a jerk.

"What now?" Kris said, leaving the trunk and dropping it on the platform as the door started to pass across it.

"Oh, move, you," the boy pushed her aside, knelt down and stretched out his hand and caught hold of the handle of the trunk. Just then it seemed he would topple right down on the platform by the train's motion and the trunk's weight, but Kris grabbed his hands and their combined effort pulled it on board.

Both of them were now on the compartment floor on their all fours and panting heavily.

"Thanks, um-" Kris said and waited for his name.

"Malfoy," said the boy, "and the pleasure is all mine for the great start, " he said and made a face that was farthest from being pleased.

"Sorry for that," said Kris, "by the way, I am-"

"I don't need to know. Don't go around chit-chatting with worthless people, you see," he turned away and walked a few steps. Then he again turned at Kris.

"You better find a seat yourself. Can't help you in that as well," he spat and departed.

Kris turned red. What a mean and rude person this Malfoy was! She never blocked his way for he returned the way he had come from. He just came, helped her, told her off and went away! Kris made a mental note to stay as far as possible from this Malfoy person.
