Author's Note: My friend, Cocoa987, and I came up with this idea that the Newsies were the Outsiders of their time, on a field trip (to a baseball game!). Cocoa987 is doing Seize the Day, since she called it first. I'm doing the rest. Sorry about the lyric changes, but since Pony and gang weren't in New York, some things had to be changed. I also deleted some lyrics, or else this would go to long. R&R!

It was a summer morning. Soda and Pony slept in the room on the second floor, on the right. Darry was in the master bedroom, on the left. Two-Bit was sleeping on the couch, snoring away, in the downstairs living room. Steve was leaning against the couch, drooling a little on the carpet. Johnny was in the recliner, covered up in a blanket. Dally was sleeping on the floor next to him, after he had put the blanket on Johnny.

Many a morning looked like this. The whole gang, piled up in the Curtis house. Darry, Sodapop, and Pony didn't mind. They were just happy that nobody was getting hurt or into trouble.

Two-Bit and Steve woke up. Steve was smoking a cigar, and proud of it.

Two-Bit

That's my cigar

Steve

You'll steal anudder

Darry

Hey, bummers, we got work to do.

Two-Bit

Since when did you become me mudder?

Dally

Ah, stop yer bawling!

Several Gang Members

Hey! Who ast you??

Johnny, Soda, and Pony were all awake now, despite Dally's attempts to shut the rest of the gang up. Steve and Two-Bit raced up the stairs, to the bathroom. The rule was, no one was allowed upstairs until all Curtises were up, except if it was really late in the day, or if the toilet was needed.

Steve

I smell money

Dally

You smell foul!

Two-Bit

Met this girl last night ...

Darry

Move your elbow!

Steve

Pass the towel!

Two-Bit

For a buck, I might!

The Gang

Ain't it a fine life?

Carrying the banner through it all?

A mighty fine life

Carrying the banner tough and tall

Every morning

We goes where we wishes

We's as free as fishes

Sure beats washing dishes

What a fine life

Carrying the banner home-free all!

Summer stinks and winter's waiting

Welcome to the War!

Boy, ain't nature fascinating

When youse gotta walk?

Still, it's a fine life

Carrying the banner with me chums!

A mighty fine life

Blowing every nickel as it comes

Two-Bit

I'm no snoozer

Sitting makes me antsy

I likes living chancy

The Gang

Harlem tah Delancey

What a fine life

Carrying the banner through the slums

The boys run downstairs and eat breakfast. Darry has cooked up his famous pancakes, and Sodapop has dug out the chocolate cake (for the Curtis family) and jelly (for him). Pony set the table for the whole gang to join in. In between bites, they sang this song of greaser freedom.

AN: So, please tell me if you like it (by review). I will be hopefully putting these up soon. I GOT 5th AT TRACK SECTIONALS! So, practice is done for me. Wish me luck on my writing! jedigirl627 out.
