Falling Backwards
By SMYGO4EVA

The Squad 5 lieutenant Momo Hinamori slumbers and hides amidst all the insanity and chaos, while he, the fierce captain Kenpachi Zaraki, runs through it all, scars marking him and marring his body like vultures to a carcass. Hinamori, however, hides behind her sword when she sees the chaos, and promises to use it when it is necessary, unlike the Squad 11 captain.

She has seen Zaraki in training and in battle; she recoils whenever she catches him bearing a wolfish grin on his face, her form becomes still when she hears his low, rough voice, and she had stayed close to her squad only, never even trying to converse the bloodthirsty Squad 11. While her former captain Aizen was calm and collected, Zaraki fought with only bloodlust and eagerness upon seeing crimson upon the ground.

Yes, she was afraid of him, but she then thought of something…was she afraid of him because of her own power? Was she terrified of becoming as bloodthirsty and war-mongering as him? She remembered that when Aizen was 'killed' and she thought of Ichimaru as the perpetrator, she lost her senses and threw her sword into battle, her once pure eyes lost and raging against her own conscience.

Her light would have been casting a deeper shadow in the never-ending darkness of the Soul Society. The darkness was their sanctuary, where bloodlines are no limit to what they could do, and no matter how different they were in temperament, in rage and war, everyone was the same. Even if she fell backward in a brutal fall to the death and he fell forward at the same time, they still would be the same.

Momo Hinamori was frightened of Zaraki Kenpachi, and she had a good reason to scared; she was afraid of becoming like him, when in revenge and righteous anger, she would let blood spill onto her form as it always has onto him. If he fell backwards in a chasm of insanity, she would too.
