Elessar's Lament
Dúnedain born, from Númenor come,
Aragorn named, Arathorn's son.
He rose from his bloodline, his ancestors' fall;
By life and death he brought freedom to all.
King to the last, King since his birth,
Greatest e'er known, all other lords worth.
In youth long hunted, in age long content,
He died with pride for the life he had spent.
Holder of Hope, bearer of faith,
Friend to the light, bane to the wraith.
Brought life to all men, the kingdoms made free
As white blossoms bloomed upon the white tree.
Eldar blessed, by Ilúvatar sung -
A hero mortals placed among.
Never afraid of the darkness of night,
He plunged in alone to bring forth dawn's light.
Elessar dubbed, King of all Kings;
Adan above the power of rings
Shall lie now forever in silence kept
Among the old heroes who long have slept.
A mighty spirit, steadfast strength,
Who loved one lady his life's long length.
The only mortal e'er on earth to dwell
Who bore the love of the Undomiel.
A love who chose a mortal life
To be with him, to be his wife;
Left when he passed with all Men to weep
As he fell into that unending sleep.
Such peace created, such wars were won
That he could die looking to the sun
Valour long-lasting in death on the field
Valour eternal in peace that shan't yield.
He died at ease far from Shadow's sight -
A death for which he long did fight.
A King with wife, friends and son close by,
As the gold sun set in the Western sky.
A man long loved by each true friend,
Such love as no length of time can end,
Whose loss long is grieved but should not be mourned:
For after sun sets, a new day is dawned.
To Gondor he his own son gives -
In Eldarion his spirit lives.
The White Tree prospers, his line shall prevail;
He has earned his rest beyond death's silver veil.
For him death more peace will bring -
An endless bliss, an endless Spring.
A far green land of cloudless rain,
Free of darkness and fear, to never know pain.
O Aragorn, our Elessar!
Those lands you treasured, near and far -
Where once was shadow now dwells your light;
Where once Men were blind ever shall be sight.
You bear the love of all this Earth;
Blessed are they that promised your birth.
You'll be remembered more than any Man
By those who went with you as far as each can.
Dúnedain born, from Númenor come,
Aragorn named, Arathorn's son.
The man who made peace, in love lived ever:
Mortal in life, in song lives forever.
May the grace of the Valar go with you,
May the light you left ever shine through.
May you find that land on whose golden shores
Waits a heaven that shall ever be yours.
