Married
"You're not married, are you Agent Todd?"
Kate paused. Was she married? Yes. Did she act like it? No. Did anyone know? No. She really ought to tell them- Gibbs, Abby, Ducky. She should tell them that all of her 'boyfriends' were cover-ups for her real life. She ought to tell them that her husband was acting too- pretending to bring home a different girl every week just to keep their relationship a secret.
Kate looked over at Tony, who was nervously cracking his knuckles, awaiting her answer anxiously.
She really should tell the truth, but she couldn't. They'd both get fired.
"No." She said.
Tony let out a sigh of relief. One which made everybody in the room turn and stare at him. "What?" He asked, acting confused.
As soon as the interview was over, the team made their way back to the car. Once Gibbs was in, Tony faced Kate.
"Interesting, how she pegged you for unmarried!" He grinned, playing with the gold chain that he wore around his neck, a small ring glinting in the sunlight.
Kate glared at him as he jumped into the car with Gibbs. Once he was out of sight, she reached for the matching chain that she wore around her neck, complete with a ring.
"One day," she whispered, "we will tell them."
