Of Storybooks And Magic Spells

Hermione walked down the corridor leading to the great hall. She couldn't keep her mind off of her Charms report she had just handed in, she wrinkled her nose in thought. Hermione sighed, and continued walking. She was also to meet Harry… Ron, Ginny, and Luna of course.

But now, more than usual, Harry made her feel funny. Her heart would accelerate, and her palms got very sweaty around him. Maybe it was the way their hands brushed when they walked to potions, or the way his eyes lit up when he got the spell she was teaching him correct.

The cold pavement ripped Hermione from her thoughts. She had tripped over something; it caught on her foot and lifted. Hermione winced at the burning of her palms that had broke her fall, and flipped on her back. She looked for what had tripped her and was a little shocked.

An old book had laid in her path, its cover flipped open. Hermione picked up the book, closing it, and looked at it.

The book was very dusty and quite large, but somehow light as a feather in her hands. It was red leather, with gold lettering and spine. The cover read, 'Once Upon A Time by W.D'

Hermione looked at it quizzically, "What a peculiar place to leave a book." She ran her hand over the dust to reveal a picture of a castle. It looked kind of different, from most books at Hogwarts.

Hermione noticed three girls on the cover, barely visible though. One was dark haired, but it was pulled back. She wore a white pleated shirt underneath a blue dress, and a book placed in her hand.

Another had red hair, and was half fish! She wore purple seashell top and a green fishtail. Maybe a mermaid? But definitely not from the Black Lake. And why was she holding a fork?

And the last one had extremely long, blonde hair. Her hair was in a long plait and trailed her back to the floor. She had a quite dreamy look in her eyes that had faded, and her dress simple. She looked as if she was in solitude.

Hermione looked at them, and wondered. These women looked a lot like….No. It's impossible, she thought.

She shrugged and closed the book, slipping it into her book bag. Maybe she'll show it to Luna and Ginny later, before dinner perhaps.

Still, even as Hermione walked to the Great Hall, she couldn't help but think of how hauntingly familiar those girls looked.

TBC…
