Kate Beckett sat in the 12th precinct on a Thursday afternoon. Everyone had gone off in their own direction to trying to finish their cases before the week ended. Kate glanced around for her team. Ryan was currently on the phone with his girl friend, Jenny. Esposito had disappeared probably to talk with Lanie. Those two have been getting closer over the past few weeks.
Now where was Castle? Looking from the bullpen to the break room Kate spotted him talking with one of the other officers. Everyone else had something to do. Kate pierced her lips and glanced around the bullpen making sure no one was watching her.
Discretely she slid open the top drawer of her desk while glancing around one final time as a smile spread across her face. Slipping her hand into the drawer, her hand found the small bag she had hidden there. Carefully her fingers removed a small object from the bag. Footsteps approaching, Kate quickly popped the object in her mouth and shut her drawer returning to the paperwork in front of her.
Richard Castle sat in the chair next to her desk. Leaning in close he studied her face. Kate did her best not to acknowledge him as she sucked on the object in her mouth.
"What are you eating?" He asked bluntly still studying her features.
"Nothing," Kate said as best she could without it sounding like she was.
"If you insist," Castle said smugly sitting back slightly. Kate looked at him before the thought crossed her mind. There was no way to finish eating without chewing. Biting her lip slightly, Kate moved to get up from her desk.
"If you leave, I'm just going to look through your desk and find out what you were eating," Castle chuckled tapping his fingers on the top of her desk. Kate narrowed her eyes as she contemplated her options. Maybe he'd get bored soon and leave.
Rick shifted his position and dragged his chair closer to her. "There's always another way I could find out," He whispered leaning in close. Kate panicked at his proximity looking from his lips to his eyes.
"Wine gums," Kate blurted out.
"Wine gums?" Castle repeated sitting back in his chair his face scrunching up in confusion. "What the heck is a wine gum?"
Kate quickly chewed and swallowed the last bit of the candy. "It's gone," she smirked turning back to her paper work.
