Revenant
By SMYGO4EVA
The strange girl was cold at first; frigid and unyielding in her attempts to keep to herself.
Gone was the sweet laughter and the lovely smiles he had seen from afar, replaced by a bitter and razor-edged heart; it was clear that she wanted nothing to do with him, the monster in human skin.
The Thief King was her captor; she was his captive and nothing more.
He was ruthless, as he tried, time and time again. He, too, was relentless; how could he rule a powerful kingdom otherwise?
She refused to speak to him, and in consequence, he refused to give her a proper chamber.
She refused to join him for a meal, and he refused to have any of his subordinates serve her.
She refused his gifts; he refused to let her walk freely. It was a game that she was playing, and one he could play well.
Soon enough, the ice in her heart began to thaw and her walls began to fall; she had relented, accepting his rare acts of kindness, his gifts, and his sweet words.
Soon enough, she was smiling and laughing again and enjoying his company. Soon enough, she was accepting of the time she was obligated to spend with him, and even yearning for more.
Soon enough, the strange, soft-hearted, naive girl he had laid eyes on began to fade away, leaving the Maiden of the Dragons in her place.
Leaving his Queen in her place.
