Tag to Nashville 1x09: Be Careful of Stones That You Throw. A different perspective on Rayna, Lamar, and Tandy's kitchen scene.

Maddie Conrad wished Jessica Reynolds would just shut up. Her phone buzzed again with a text from the girl, and Maddie had had enough. It was bad enough that half of the eighth grade class was bothering her at lunch. She had barely had time to eat her turkey sandwich between the soccer players who were angling to get with a pop star and the popular girls who were mad that the boys were giving Maddie attention. She seriously didn't need her best friend bothering her about Juliet Barnes too.

So what if her mom was working with Juliet. It's not like Maddie's mom would let her bother the other singer. She stumbled on the top stair as she texted Jessica again that she really couldn't get Juliet's autograph.

She could hear Grandpa's voice in the kitchen with her mom, and hurried toward the room. Since Dad's campaign Grandpa and Aunt Tandy had been attached at the hip. Maddie could tell Aunt Tandy about her solo in choir! She was about to round the corner when Tandy's timid interjection gave her pause.

"He was upset. We're all upset." What was her aunt talking about?

"You can't yank those girls out of school. What kind of parent does that?"

"You talkin' to me about parenting?" Mom sounded annoyed.

"Okay look. I've made my mistakes. But I would never never have left your mother alone in a situation..."

"Don't you bring my mother into this."

Momma was fighting with Grandpa over...a tour? Maddie loved going on tour with Momma and Uncle Deacon. And maybe she could get Juliet's autograph and rub it in the faces of those queen bees at school.

It almost sounded like the argument was over, but just before Maddie continued her quest for applesauce she heard it.

"Don't be foolish enough to consider divorce. Custody battles always seem to shine a light on the issues of paternity. And it'd be a shame if Maddie were to learn the truth about her real father."

"Get outta my house."

"I'm trying to save your family."

"Get out. Of. My. House. Both of you. Right Now."

Maddie didn't even register the fury in her mom's voice after his statement. Her brain was too busy trying to comprehend what he had said. Her parents were getting a divorce? Daddy wasn't her real father? He wasn't her biological father?

Maddie heard Tandy's heels start to clack in her direction and dashed for the stairs.
