Chapter 1
He left. He left without a word, a note, or even a goodbye. So I sat there waiting, like the naïve little girl I was always portrayed as.
I sucked in a breath, and slowly exhaled it. "Now, where did that monk say the nearest town was?" Screw it. I was never good with directions anyhow.
I put my finger in my mouth, and pulled it out. I positioned it in front of me. After a few moments of feeling the gentle breeze, I decided to go west. Even though that did nothing, it at least seemed somewhat logical.
Okay, it didn't.
I kept walking for at least four miles until I decided to rest on a boulder. My elbow rested on my knee, while my chin rested on the palm of my hand.
I unwound the cloth that was wound around my nose, cheeks, and mouth. I pulled out a jug of sake and a loaf of bread from my knapsack. I drank a couple of sips from the sake, and sat, even as the sake dribbled onto my chin.
Would he be safe?
Of course he would, no one could best him in swordsmanship.
Would he have shelter?
He'll probably make do with anything, or use his 'charming' smile to coax a villager into letting him into their home, in trade of doing their chores.
Would he . . . have food?
"What?" my stomach growled in protest. I roughly scrubbed the liquid off of my chin, and took a bite out of the bread.
I slowly chewed my food, enjoying the peace and quiet.
After I finished my quick meal, it was decided that having a destination in mind might silence these thoughts.
Yes! I finally made it to town. Whatever town this is anyway. . .
I looked about my surroundings and discovered that it was a quaint little town that had its quirks.
I kept walking through the marketplace, occasionally looking at various items some merchants had on display.
While I was looking around, and walking at the same time, multitasking perhaps, I slammed unknowingly onto a hard chest.
"Oomph!"
Before I could apologize and fall in embarrassment, two calloused hands steadied me by gripping my shoulders.
"Are you alright miss?" the man asked.
"I'm quite al-," I was speechless to say that I looked upon concerned amethyst eyes.
