Chapter One

Dan trudged to the playground, huffing under his breath. He didn't need to spend more time outside! He was fine as he was.

Did it have to be the creepy park beside the creepy 18th century graveyard? he though miserably, It could have at least been a normal park.

He reached the slide and sat down at the bottom of it. Thank god he had been able to sneak his phone out of the house. He opened his phone and started going through his Instagram feed. Celebrities, YouTube, Emo, his feed was the same as usual. He sighed and put it back in his pocket.

I wonder what's in the cemetery, he thought, Besides corpses and ghosts, of course.

He shuddered. Pull yourself together, Daniel. You're fourteen, you don't believe in ghosts.

He slowly made his way over to the graveyard, placing each foot carefully in case some zombie stuck it's hand up through the dirt and caught his leg. He slowed his pace as he reached one of the gravestones at the front of the cemetery. He crouched down to read it. The name was smudged, but the dates were not.

1745-1761

There was nothing else on the gravestone, aside from that. He wondered why the boy had died so young. And why did he have a gravestone? Most boys his age didn't get gravestones at that time. He put his hand on the top of the gravestone. It felt... warm, almost. Why was it warm on such a cloudy day? He drew his hand back sharply and furrowed his eyebrows at the gravestone. Suddenly, there was a flash of white in front of his eyes. He blinked and stumbled back a few steps, only to open his eyes to a boy about two years older than him standing in front of him. He had raven black hair and piercing blue eyes. The only only odd thing about him was... Dan could see right through him. He manged to contain a scream but he spun around on his heel and raced all the way to the other side of the playground before tripping over his own feet. Idiot! he though, as he pushed himself up. He leaned against one of the playground walls, catching his breath. Had he just seen... a ghost? Was that the ghost of the gravestone he had just seen? No. No it couldn't have been. He chuckled under his breath. He was just seeing things. Dan closed his eyes and put his face in his hands, still laughing. How could he have thought it was a ghost?

He blinked open his eyes.

The boy was still in front of him. He didn't jump back this time, though. Instead he studied the boy. Was he hallucinating? Because this kid was definitely see-through. His raven hair was swept across the right side of his face, slightly covering his right eye. His eyes were a gorgeous blue with specks of green and just the hint of yellow. He was wearing a loose brown sweater over top of a white dress shirt, and black trousers. He stared into his eyes, lost in the beautiful pools of blue.

"Y-you can s-see me?" the boy stuttered slowly.

Dan nodded. "Y-yeah..."

"Sorry," the boy shook his head "It's just, it's not everyday you encounter a living being that can actually see you."

"Y-you're... a ghost?"

The boy nodded.

"What's your name?" Dan asked curiously

The ghost smiled warmly and said "Phil. Phil Lester."
