Neela stood there on his doorstep-her old doorstep- wanting to know, but not being able to muster up the courage. She had been standing there for nearly half an hour after a sleepless night of regret and confusion.
She needed him. She knew that now, but it was too late. He'd already asked, and she'd already said no. And now he would barely speak to her. Her heart was breaking.
'You idiot! Just do it!' she told herself. Taking a deep breath she rose up her arm and knocked. She heard footsteps coming closer and her heartbeat accelerated. 'I'm really going to tell him,' she promised herself. The door opened. A very pretty woman stood there, hair damp, one of Ray's t-shirts hanging off her slim frame. She heard a second set of footsteps, this one really belonging to Ray, and she bolted.
It was raining outside. It was if the whole world was contributing to the tears that were streaming down her face.
"Neela! Neela, wait!" She heard Ray call from behind. She turned around, and he was there. He grabbed her by the waist, pulled her to him and kissed her deeply. "It's always been you, Neela," he whispered when the kiss was over, "And it always will be you."
"But that girl…" Neela said, smiling from their kiss, but still very confused.
"Was my sister, Jody," Ray finished. She looked so beautiful standing there, a mixture of tears and raindrops running own her cheeks, her soaked hair clinging to her face. "I love you, Neela," he murmured, "and I always will."
"I love you, too, Ray," she replied choking up.
He crushed her to him once again and they stood there kissing, oblivious to the rain and the people passing by, giving them strange looks from underneath their umbrellas. All that either of them noticed at that moment was each other.
A/N Short, sweet and to the point. That's what I was hoping for at least. Please review!
