A/N: Hey guys! So, a little background on this. It's a flash fiction, which, like its name implies, is short- you can read it in a flash. The technique is called the 'Before that' technique. (Wow, how original!) I had gone to this writer's forum and one of the guest authors told us about it. I guess it's also a late tribute to the tornadoes in Oklahoma. That being said, enjoy! :)
Disclaimer: I don't own The Outsiders. Or the lyrics used in the summary. (Those are the wonderful Carrie Underwood's)
(And a mini shout-out to my sister for helping me come up with the title! Thanks dude!)
Blown Away
He stares out in shock as all he's ever known is gone, destroyed.
Before that, light flooded his vision as he exited the safe-house, pushing open the heavy door. He blinks hard, eyes straining against the bright skies.
Before that, the all-too familiar sound of the rain smacking above echoed in the silent space. Winds battered mercilessly against his only protection. Thunder and lightning argued in the air, snapping and hollering at one another like bickering siblings.
Before that, sirens screamed in the thick desert air. He ran to the cellar, hiding away in the heat.
Before that, a heavy breeze blew through his window, carrying droplets of rain in with it. The glass rattled harshly, mimicking the branches swaying outside.
Before that, silver clouds lined with grey rolled in, a depressed mood following.
Before that, the dark night was crisp and clear, the stars shimmering brightly overhead.
