"I like you as a brother."
They are the words you never went to hear as a guy. But unfortunately for you, you're looking at the girl of your dreams say the same words to you. You look over her to see she isn't looking at you and she's looking at her book in front of her. You notice that your jaw is hanging open and your English book is lay forgotten. You feel your heart break when she turns away from you and starts writing in her book as she starts to ignore you. You feel light-headed as you turn numbly to your work as you hear your teacher speak. You zone him out and write in your messy hand-writing trying to remember what went wrong. It started out as a normal lesson, you sat down next to her as she flashed her pearly white teeth in a smile at you, you felt the butterflies in your stomach but you try and ignore it. When you sat next to her, you felt her leg touch yours in a friendly way and you felt sparks shoot up your leg and spark the butterflies. As the lesson drew on, you both started to talk about what friends talk about and then the conversation went to relationships. When she posed the question, "Do you like anyone?" You felt your cheeks warm up and you start banging your feet together out of nervousness.
"You do like someone?" You heard her exclaim as she playfully bumped you, you felt her skin touch against your and you begin to blush harder this time trying not to show your face. You hear her giggle as you close your eyes trying to keep the blush from appearing on your face. You felt her hand on your shoulder and you look up to see Kairi's long auburn hair and her violet eyes looking concerned for you.
"I was joking, you know right?" Her voice was full of concerned as you nodded with a small smile on your face. It's one of the reasons why you like her so much; she can be a badass but when you're one of her friends, she really cares for you.
"It's kind of embarrassing." You choke out looking around for any way to leave this conversation. You notice her tilt her head in confusion as you decide to just go for it.
"Well..." You start out nervously, this wasn't where you wanted to ask out Kairi but you decide this is the last shot you're going to get.
"You're the girl I like." You finish nervously as you see her perfectly shaped mouth form an o, you wait for her response and see her staring blankly at you as you look into her eyes.
Then that's when she says the dreadful line.
"I like you as a brother."
You're still sitting there waiting for her to make a sound or talk to you but her head is down and looking at her work. You try to talk to her but find you're speechless, this isn't meant to happen. You're the hero, who's meant to win the girl and save the day, not be rejected in the middle of an English class.
"Look, I'm sorry Sora." You hear your name being said and you look up to see her violet eyes look into your sky blue eyes.
"I did like you but when you went away, the feelings left and I just see you as my brother." Each word she says is a stab to your heart but you try and blink away the tears as you nod dumbly at her.
"Maybe in the future, I'll start liking you again but now you're just my bro, sorry Sora." You see her leave her seat as she goes sits next to Selphie. You look around to see your best friend, Riku shrug his shoulders if trying to tell you "she'll come around". You nod and start to listen to the teacher as you think one thing.
