A/N: I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to write a nice, fluffy, nostalgic piece about New York City, with the details that only Gossip Girl could provide us. Keep in mind I was lying on my bed listening to Britney Spears and the Lemonheads and wrote this in about twenty minutes in a spiral notebook just now, so it may or may not be completely terrible. I was originally planning to write a series from different characters' perspectives, and maybe some interesting outside ones like Eva and Louis, but I decided not to...I'd appreciate some input, though, so if you think I should write more, I will; just say so in a review! Anyway, as far as canon goes, I'd place this about two years after the finale.
New York
New York City was Blair's entire life.
She couldn't even go a block without a wave of memories hitting her, all across the city. There was the spot where Chuck had first told her he loved her, and Blair's heart had felt like it was going to explode. The pond, where Nate had kissed her for the first time in a year on that beautifully cliché winter day. Blair's old penthouse, where she and Serena had packed for innumerable trips while having light heart-to-hearts over the Louboutins and Hermes scarves scattered across Blair's bed.
Blair loved the city because it was alive. New York was forever changing; growing. People fell under its spell every day, but Blair was lucky enough to say that she and New York were there to stay.
New York was humanized even more so by its flaws. The Empire State Building, which, at this point, Chuck and Blair had made a mutual but unmentioned decision to pretend didn't exist. The street in front of Blair's old building, where the Captain had gotten arrested and Blair's heart had been semi-ripped apart by Nate. The Campbell apartment, where Serena had deflowered Nate and later enticed Dan to cheat on Blair.
But for every terrible moment, there were a million great ones, no matter how small they were. An Affair to Remember now held an extra layer of emotion as well as retaining a prime spot on Blair's list of favorite films. Chuck had kissed her as he "saw her off" on her way to the dorms at NYU. And Blair had had fun at that wedding!
She and Chuck had been married in New York, and it was still the single happiest day of Blair's life, despite all else that had happened that day. Nate wrote an editorial a few months later in his New York-based newspaper about her personal journey as a powerful businesswoman so beautiful that it brought Blair to tears when she read it. Serena had eaten ice cream and cried with Blair as the two women watched Suits in Chuck and Blair's townhouse. Someday, Chuck and Blair's children would be born in New York.
The city held happiness, tears, and more love than was imaginable for Blair Bass. It contained the vast majority of her triumphs as well as failures, and Blair wouldn't have it any other way. New York City was a part of Blair and she it, and that was one of the few things in Blair's life that had never and would never change.
