Lilah leaned over his shoulder purposely letting her hair fall forward to brush against his cheek, the strong scent of her shampoo causing him to grimace and lean away. He watched as her slender fingers deftly plucked the slides from amidst all the papers piled in front of him, before she stepped away and out of his personal space -- sashaying, was all he could call it, across the room to the slide projector.

He hadn't missed a single nuance of her little show, the insinuation to the senior partners that she was better than him obvious in the way she'd stood ramrod straight, towering over his seated form. It's why she wore those fucking four-inch heels everyday. A little dig at him, a small way of saying she was superior to him without saying anything but Lindsey McDonald hadn't come all this way to be undone by petty digs, he'd gone through public school in Louisiana for twelve years along with all the miscreants and cretins in the state, with the name Lindsey for crying out loud.

Plus he knew a little secret, Lilah Morgan was a full two inches shorter than him barefoot.

That little bit of intimate knowledge had come his way, back when they'd first started working together. A long night, an invitation to go out to a bar, ten or forty drinks later the latent sexual tension between them had risen to the forefront of everything and before Lindsey knew what was going on Lilah's hand was on his ass and his tongue was down her throat. They'd barely made it the 12 blocks to her apartment and Lindsey distinctly remembered out of the haze of memory, pressing her up against the door after they'd slammed it behind them. Lilah had kicked off her heels immediately upon entering the apartment and Lindsey was surprised to find himself leaning down to kiss her, hands tangled in the ginger coloured strands that weren't teased straight back then.

"Hey! Weren't you taller?" He'd exclaimed when they finally broke the kiss off, panting for air, staring down in confusion at her bare toes drunkenly wondering where her other three inches had gone.

"You're a little slow aren't you!" She'd murmured into his ear. A few seconds later she was running a hand through his hair to the back of his head, cupping it and pulling him to her once again and he forgot about height as they tumbled to her lushly carpeted floor.

"Lindsay?" Holland's irritated voice broke into his ruminations.

"Sorry, Sir." The young lawyer drawled, almost sincerely, except for a brief flicker of .something in his sapphire blue eyes.

"I believe you are giving the second half of this presentation Lilah has been so kind to put together." Holland said in a tone so bland that it conveyed his admonishment better than a clear- cut scolding ever could.

"Yes sir, I am." Lindsay replied ignoring the small glow triumph flashing in Lilah's green eyes. The same look his siblings would give him that 'Ha ha, you're in trouble with Daddy and I'm not' look. Rising from his seat, he began to explain the weaknesses and strengths of the latest company they were to take over, basking in the nods and grunts of approval that slowly sucked the smugness out of Lilah's gaze.

When he was finished he made a great show of leaning down to meet Lilah at her level to say thanks for sharing the presentation. Dropping the rest of slides on the table top in front of her before straightening and walking back to his side of the table. Oh yeah, he could deal with petty digs.
