Happy 4th of July! I'm so sorry I haven't published this sooner. But here's 'Hard.' No, not that way you perverts. : )

Rex wasn't stupid.

He knew damn well what people said about him behind his back.

"Sick bastard."

"Abomination."

"First a freak, now a fag."

The insults went on and on. Rex couldn't walk down the street without being glared at, spit at, or both. He couldn't walk down the street with his boyfriend without being cussed out or having something thrown at them. Why couldn't people just accept them?

Rex walked into the Providence HQ lounge. He scowled when he saw what was on the TV. It was a re-run of Ultimate Exposure. It had originally aired only one and a half weeks ago. The episode was about him and Noah.

"It appears," the host began, "That Providence's secret weapon, a teenage EVO named 'Rex', has begun dating publicly. Usually, that would be considered normal. Except for the fact he's dating another male."

The screen cut to a picture of Rex and Noah walking down the street holding hands. Next was a shot of them eating dinner together. And last was a still of the two kissing.

The Latino blushed angrily as everyone in the room turned to look at him. A few snickered, but were quickly silenced by sympathetic Providence Agents. The embarrassed teen hastily returned his attention to the screen.

"While most people have gotten used to the idea of an known EVO living among them, they're views changed when they found out he was gay. It seems the young agent and his blonde boyfriend can't go anywhere without being harassed. Here, we have the audience to tell us their opinions on the situation."

The camera turned to a young man. He looked like he was in his mid-twenties, and was of Puerto Rican descent. He had short black hair, and a pencil mustache.

"Sir, if you could please tell us a little bit about yourself."

"My name is Carlos Ecquizel. I'm a Policemen. Been in for about five years."

"What did you think of Rex before this happened?"

"I've never been to fond of EVOs. The kid was pushing it. Providence was created to defend us from them, not recruit them."

"I see. What do you think of him now?"

"If I didn't like him before, I hate him now. Being gay is wrong. It's sick. He's an abomination. Do the mothers and fathers of America really want their kids-"

Rex roared in anger and changed his arms into his 'smack hands.' He leaped at the screen and smashed it. His rage was unrelenting, and the Latino continued to take out his fury on the TV. Suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Rex."

It was all Six said. It was all he had to say. In that one word, the agent had conveyed his sympathy, regret, and anger.

Rex deactivated his nanites and sobbed into the man's shoulder. Six had the EVO lean on him and took him back to his room. He gently laid the young agent on his bed and turned to leave. But before he did, the green clad man turned and uttered two words.

"I'm sorry."

Rex looked up at the agent. His eyes conveyed a wordless thank-you. The Latino sank back on his bed.

Why did things have to be so damn hard?

I know it's short, but hey, I got the message across. I don't think I'm going to be updating this for a bit. I have a basic idea of what's going to happen, but that's it. Although, I have something to hold you guys over. A quick one-shot called 'Curiosity.'
