Only You

"Jack."

Jack Mercer looked up from his cereal bowl which he had been prodding moodily for the last ten minutes.

"Eat your cereal." Bobby told him, slouched against the counter, waiting for the toast to heat up.

"Not hungry." Jack murmured, pushing the bowl away. Bobby frowned, picked up the cereal bowl and fished out a spoonful.

"Open wide." Bobby teased, placing the utensil in Jack's mouth. Jack swallowed unwillingly, surprised at this treatment from his older brother.

"Good?" Bobby asked. Jack nodded. Bobby smiled and put the bowl down, satisfied. He checked on the toaster, and called Evelyn that it was ready. He grabbed his jacket and car keys and looked round at Jack.

"Come on, I'll give you a lift to school."

Jack fetched his things, a little dazed. He hopped in the car, and Bobby started the engine.

"You can buy Him phosphorescent

Glows in the dark, He's pink and pleasant…" Jack murmured under his breath, a tune stuck in his head. Bobby grinned at the old song. He stopped the car just before they reached the school, turning to Jack.

"Okay, Jack. Who is it?" Bobby sighed.

Jack reared his head, face blank. "What?"

"Who's bullying you? I swear, I'll knock the shit out of 'em! And, don't you tell me no lies, Jack. You've been sleep-walking and screaming in your sleep for the last month, whispering "it can't be him! it's him!". Who is it? The Cullens? I swear-"

"Bobby, Bobby, calm down! I'm not bein' bullied!"

"Then what's up?"

Jack squirmed and blushed under Bobby's intense look.

"Ah, a girl?"

Jack frowned. "No."

"A guy?"

Jack blinked and fiddled with his carefully styled hair. He dared a glance at Bobby's face quickly. To his complete shock, Bobby was calm, only curious, and protective.

Jack closed his eyes, sure he was dreaming. A soft warm hand startled him, resting on his own, in his lap. Bobby's eyes were wide, waiting.

"Who?" he asked softly.

"Bobby-"

"Jack, tell me."

Jack pushed Bobby's hand away, stepping out of the car. He started down the pavement, hearing Bobby yell his name, but he ducked his head down and continued.

Bobby drove off past him, obviously distressed by Jack's lack of communication. Jack stopped, breathing hard, though his pace was slow. Startling blue eyes glanced up, looking at Bobby's distant car lights. Jack sighed, realising how unnecessary he'd acted. He could have lied, easing Bobby's conscience. Jack blinked away tears.

"It's only you, Bobby." he whispered to the empty air. "I only want you."
