Dennis sat at his desk, his eyes beginning to feel heavy and his vision beginning to blur. Taxes… they were so un-rock n' roll, but someone had to take care of this place. He was working diligently, trying not to get distracted, he had to finish these tonight (or this morning, he was guessing it was now) and he told everyone he didn't want to be bothered, but deep inside he knew that what he wanted more than anything was for Lonny to come through that door and distract him like he always did. Two weeks, Lonny had been gone for two weeks and Dennis couldn't hide the fact that he missed him more than anything; he missed the dime to his jukebox. One more day, he could handle that… barely. He sighed and leaned back in his chair, looking at the old couch in the corner of his office. It was nights like these when Lonny would stay with him while he finished some last minute paper work. Every time, they'd go through the same thing: "Lonny, you really don't have to stay. You can go home, man."
"And leave you here all by yourself? You're not getting rid of me that easily, Dennis." Dennis smiled at the thought. Most of the time, he would work while Lonny fell asleep on that couch with the TV on, but it was better than being alone. There was knock at the door, bringing him back to half-asleep reality. "Come in," he mumbled drowsily. "Hey, boss!" Sherrie smiled and stepped inside. "Hey," Dennis nodded and hunched over his desk again. "Drew just wanted me to tell you that we're running low on the Jack again."
"Great," Dennis put his pen down and rubbed his eyes, "thanks Sherrie. Are you leaving now?"
"Yep! Drew and I are gonna head out, unless you need us to do anything else?" Dennis looked at the clock on his desk; 4:47 holy shit! "Nah, you guys can go."
"Thanks," Sherrie turned to leave, "Oh, hey! When does Lonny get back?" Dennis looked up, his heart ached without Lonny by his side, and he could tell that she knew it. "Um… he's back tomorrow… today actually." Sherrie smiled, "it's been a long two weeks without him, huh? I don't think I've ever seen you two apart." Dennis sat there in silence, what she said was true. He thought about saying something, but decided that he wasn't really in the mood to talk at 4:47 in the morning. "Just… tell Drew to lock the door on the way out, okay?" The smile vanished from Sherrie's face "Oh… right, okay. No problem, Dennis. I'll see you later."
"Bright n' early!"
"Don't work too hard!" she added and shut the door behind her.
Just a few more hours and he'll be back, Dennis told himself. He stretched his back and went back to work; even after all this, there was no way he was sleeping between now and then.
