As the bell rang all of the children trudged into the school building. Emily waved good-bye to her mother as she stepped out of the car, excited about it being Valentine's Day, finally. It was her favorite day of the year, and now she would have an excuse to give Johnny, her crush, a valentine filled with her great love. Emily quickly walked in with the rest of the cheerful students, who were showing their friends, their valentines.
Opening her locker she set her back-pack in, taking out her new book and all her valentines for her friends along with the pink and red box she made herself, where she could receive valentines without losing them. Walking into the classroom she set down her things on her desk, making sure nothing was missing. Looking up her eyes spotted Johnny, the boy of her dreams. He was smart, funny, good looking and to top it all off cool.
Blushing pink she looked over at her best friend, Sarah and waved the blonde girl over. Smiling the two girls giggled and talked about how great today was going to be, as it was their favorite day of the year. Sarah nudged Emily as Johnny walked by saying a greeting to the two stunned friends.
"H-Hi John-Johnny." squeaked little Emily, her dark bangs falling in her face as she blushed, hiding it from the boy. Sarah smiled at Emily knowingly after he had left to talk with his friends.
"Ha! So you do like him, that proves it!" she whispered triumphantly. Emily shook her head no furiously but she knew that she had been found out. The day slowly drolled on and it would soon be time to pass out valentines to each other. Emily sat in her seat, clutching Johnny's special valentine to her chest hoping he wouldn't be disgusted about her feelings towards him.
"Ok, class. You may now start passing out your valentines' cards." the teacher said, smiling with a twinkle in her eye.
Soon the classroom was buzzing with noise, everyone walking around talking and exchanging valentines. Emily slowly got up, her valentines in hand and walked to each of her friends seats first, then the other students who weren't as close as her best friend's. She even set one on the teacher's desk, before walking over to Johnny's seat. Emily breathed heavy, ragged breaths as she approached, Johnny laughing with his friends, not noticing her coming.
"Just set it down and then run back to your seat, Em's." she told herself silently. Finally reaching her destination, Emily held her breath as she began to place the heart shaped valentine on the almost full desk. But suddenly a hand reached out and stopped her, taking the valentine out of her hands.
"Is this for me?" the one and only Johnny asked her as he smiled down at her. Shocked, she nodded numbly before blushing and then running back to her desk. Then the end of the day bell rang and she quickly grabbed her box and ran to her locker, shoving her stuff inside it and dashing away from her closed locker, back-pack in hand.
As Emily stepped inside her mother's car, she looked back seeing Johnny standing in the middle of the school courtyard, smiling at her. She wondered what the smile ment and was about to go ask, but it was too late. Her mother was already driving away. She sighed thinking about what she had given the boy of her dreams.
And how she would never know what his true feelings were.
