When Casey and Derek went off to Queens, they both found themselves surrounded by new experiences. Casey found new best friends in her sorority sisters and fellow pre-law students, while Derek roughed it up with his hockey buddies and fraternity brothers. They both enjoyed college living their own separate lives away from the rest of the family, but travelled back home on holidays together to see everyone. Both Casey and Derek actually had quite a few friends in common as they went to the same parties in the Greek System. They acknowledged each other as step-siblings, and even spent time together once in a while. Usually they went out for coffee between classes, or Derek convinced Casey to help him study for a test, but on occasion they spent time together watching a movie or something (usually in Casey's dorm, because Derek was still pretty untidy, and his fellow hockey playing roommate was worse). They found a refreshing sense of home when together, as Derek teased Casey and Casey's well-known reaction of "Der-rek!" Needless to say, although they both grew up (yes even Derek), some things never change when it comes to family.
