AN: just a quick fluffy oneshot to make up for the latest chapter of In a Flash because… yeah
Kate let out a soft groan as she rolled over in bed, running her hand over the empty space next to her. She rolled onto her back, opening her eyes then glancing around the room. It was strange for Rick to wake up before her, even on his best days he normally slept until he smelled bacon or coffee.
She heard the sound of running water in the silent room. Sitting up, she saw the light in the bathroom from under the closed door. She smiled, sliding out of bed and going to the bathroom, stripping out of the clothes she slept in as she went.
She opened the door, careful to not make any noise as she walked into the room and stepped silently into the shower behind him. She snaked her arms around his waist, making him jump. "Gotcha," she whispered in his ear.
"Well, good morning," he said, leaning in to her embrace.
He could feel her smile as she placed a kiss against his shoulder. "Morning."
They stood like that for a moment, her arms around him from behind, bodies pressed together as hot water ran over them. The week had been a crazy one for them both, they had two murder cases in five days and his publishers were breathing down his neck for a manuscript of a novel that didn't exist.
This was exactly what they needed, a quiet moment of closeness that didn't involve sex or sleeping. The water hit her back, gently beating away the dull pain of her overworked muscles.
She let out a soft moan, leaning her head against his shoulder and closing her eyes. "You ok?" he asked.
She nodded, her wet hair brushing his neck. "Mmm… just enjoying this."
They both dreaded moving. Even though neither of them had properly showered, the idea of crawling back into bed and curling up under the covers to sleep away the freezing December Saturday had crossed both their minds. But they minute the water turned off, they would both be soaking wet and shivering.
She had no idea how long they had until the hot water ran out but she was far too comfortable to care. "Can we just stay like this?"
He smiled. "Sounds perfect. Let me know when you wanna trade places."
"Now works," she said with a smile, untangling her arms from around him. She slid in front of him, he put his arms around her and held her close to his chest, enveloping her in his large frame. She turned around so they were facing each other and leaned her head against his chest. "Let me know what you want to change back."
"I'm in no hurry."
