Hi guys. So, I realize it's been 5 years, but to be completely honest, I kinda forgot this existed. I'm now nearly through college and have a summer to myself for once. If any of my followers are still out there and jumping back into it on chapter 6, do me a favor and start over from the beginning. I actually took the time to review and, to an extent, rewrite chapters 1-5. A couple little things changed, and I did my best to scrub away any trace of my high school writing skills (or lack thereof). If you are new and are reading this for the first time, just ignore this message and move on with the story. I can't say exactly how far I'm going to be able to go with this story, but I do remember it being very relaxing to write. Even these last few days of editing and drafting new chapters has been helpful for me. One more thing, I actually have somebody to thank. I was going through my computer and cleaning up some junk when I came across my old email. I had actually gotten a notification through it that told me that inuyasha16451 left a review on May 25th, barely a couple weeks ago. It was baffling to me that people still read this thing after all these years and it was the push I needed to pick it back up. So, thank you, inuyasha16451 for your motivation and I hope I don't disappoint you.
War can effect people in so many horrendous ways. It tears families apart, fills people with misplaced guilt, and has the potential to destroy relationships. No one ever truly wins, even when a war ends. For Harry Potter, the war against the wizarding world left him ostracized. After Voldemort was defeated, secrets got out about what exactly the Golden Trio were up to over their years in school. Thousands of lives were endangered in the process, but that was to be expected. It seems that the only thing to give all of those broken people an outlet to their grief, was to find a scapegoat. Wizards have always been a self-centered, twisted race of humans, so who else would they blame but the one who "didn't kill the snake faced bastard sooner". Harry, being the empathetic person that he is, was already carrying enough of his own guilt. His friends' belittling comments and brash attitudes were nothing but icing on the cake that he never asked for.
The Weasley's and other wizarding families had cleaned out all his vaults as 'reparations' for themselves. Some of his peers were brazen enough to be physically abusive, even in little ways such as tripping him in the halls. Others simply yelled hurtful rhetorical questions like "How could he let all those people die?". The Chosen One dragged himself through the castle as people questioned him, overcome with depression. His once gorgeous emerald eyes had reduced to a faded green. He almost couldn't be bothered to care
But I have a chance to change all that, and I intend to. I've had to watch all this unfold in hiding. A fair amount of students had returned to Hogwarts to finish what should've been their final year of schooling. Before my sixth year had started, I had disappeared from this place and had no regrets. Well, maybe just one; leaving the emerald-eyed young man behind. Maybe with more planning, things could've been different, but I was childish and selfish. Now, I could fix him and give him a chance to be the careless teenager he never got to be. I could give him life, love and a reason to stay.
This had to work.
HPOV
I stumbled back into consciousness with fuzzy vision. Merlin. They must have knocked me out again. That means I'll have to skip breakfast again. Wait. Why is my pillow green?
I sat straight up and quickly regretted the decision. I had a splitting headache behind my eyes and my body was aching to the bone. What did they do to me this time? Where am I? I was lying in a large four poster bed coated in green silk blankets and long black curtains. Standing up to investigate, I found an extremely large bedroom, complete with an adjourning master bathroom and fireplace along the wall. The room was decorated elegantly from floor to ceiling with curtains and artwork. A desk sat against the wall next to the door, covered in parchments. Wait, a door!
I had to stagger my way over to it with the level of pain I was in. Something was horribly wrong. The last thing I could remember was eating dinner in the Great Hall after a confrontation with Ron. This room was very Slytherin-esque but was far too nice to be a dorm room. The doors lead to what seemed to be a common room to go along with the bedroom. It wasn't bad, actually very nicely decorated handsomely with another fireplace and a sitting area around it. Three large bay windows took up most of the biggest wall with a cushioned sitting area in the windowsill.
Moving closer to the windows, I could tell I was many stories up, possibly in a very old tower. I was in some sort of castle, but it looked nothing like Hogwarts. Below me, a village surrounded the castle with little houses, shops along cobblestone streets, and a lake beyond the paths. It was pitch black out save for the occasional hanging lanterns placed along the road. Moving on though another door takes me out to a large corridor that would give Hogwarts a run for its galleons. There's golden light at one end and a shadow jumped the walls showing that a person had walked by. Maybe they knew where I was. I move slowly down the hallway, using the stone wall as my guide. I come across an unnecessarily large room. The ceiling must've reached over twenty feet with a massive staircase in the middle. A tall, heavily built man stood at the top of the stairs and was watching the horizon from the nearest window.
Before I could decide what to do, his focus was drawn away from his musings. He snapped his head around to look at me with deep amber eyes. An animalistic snarl came through his teeth and lunged at me, jumping down from the stairs. I had no time react before he had me pinned against the wall. My scream of pain barely drowned out the sound of a sickening crunch coming from my left shoulder.
"Hello little human. What brings you into my arms?" The mystery man growls behind a toothy smile. A single too-strong hand had my wrists pinned above my head while the other drug a sharp nail over the softest part of my cheek.
"What are you doing? What do you want?" I screamed in panic. "Let me go!" I struggled and thrashed under his grip, but it was no use. Without my wand, I had to rack my brain for another means of escape. He completely ignored my questions and gave me a devilish smirk as he continued.
"What a foolish human, wandering around like that. Whoever brought you in here needs to take better care of their snacks. Oh well. Finders keepers!" He bit down hard on my ear, drawing blood. I screamed for anyone to come save me, but then it hits me. I don't have anyone. I finally understand why I'm here. That's probably what this is; they finally decided to get rid of me and leave me with some carnivorous creature.
"Just kill me quickly. Please." I feel tears begin to shamelessly run down my face. I had the right if these were going to be my last moments.
"Kill you? Oh no, no my pet. We're going to have a little fun." Amber eyes faded into blood red, resembling a sort of twisted demon.
My mouth fell open with disbelief. This can't be happening. The man then slammed his mouth over my own with unnatural force, knocking my head back against the stone wall. My vision blurred and my knees buckled, but the grip on my wrists held me up. I managed to bite down onto his lower lip, refusing to let go. He screamed in pain and released my wrists. I went straight for my wand and move to assume a defensive stance behind him.
"You should NOT have done that human." He growled, dark blood still dripping from his now swollen lip. I didn't even have a moment to try to cast a spell. He was too fast for me, speeding over to me with the blink of an eye. Those hands grabbed me again, but this time by the neck and held me high. I clawed at his hands, but it was no use.
"I definitely can't kill you now. Thought I would lose my temper huh? Of course a human would be stupid enough to think that would work. I have to admit though, you don't smell like a typical human." He seemed to be laughing at my pain. To make matters worse, I had no idea what he was saying about why I didn't smell normal, or why it even mattered. Besides, there was so much more to worry about than this creature's rambling. My throat constricted and I scrambled for breath. He threw me across the room with immense strength. My body collided with the wall and my shoulder made the sickening sound once again. From my position on the floor, I looked up at him. He smirked at my mangled position, revealing sharp bloodied fangs. My vision went fuzzy for a minute and I just knew my consciousness would fail me any minute now.
My attacker began to change in front of my eyes. His skin shifted around to reveal dark red scales. Two massive, dark red dragon wings emerged from his back. Claws grew from his fingertips and toes. He glared at me with blood-red catlike eyes.
"What are you?" I asked weakly before letting my head drop to the floor. All I could do was shut my eyes as he broke into a run towards me. I waited for the worst... It never came.
There was nothing but a deep growling sound resonating throughout the room. I opened one eye to find that an enormous white dragon had perched itself over me. It was absolutely beautiful and yet it towered over me with a terrifying threatening stance pointed towards my attacker. Just one of the wings was easily longer than my entire body. White scales that shone in the moonlight covered its whole body from its bared teeth to the long tail that curled at my feet.
It was crouching low in a protective stance over me, growling and snapping large jaws at the half-human half-dragon man. My attacker started to speak the strangest, unintelligible words. I tried to keep up, but I had no idea what they were saying, or even what language they spoke. I had never heard it before but I could tell they were arguing through body language.
The red dragon man yelled one last thing and backed up. He began to change even further. The patches of scales on his skin grew outward to cover his whole body. He fell to all fours and grew about twice his size. A large red dragon stood in his place, slightly bigger than the one that was hovering over me.
The white dragon picked me up around the waist with his tail and set me down surprisingly gently in the corner. The red dragon tried to lunge in my direction but was cut short by the white one. The two beasts dove into a fierce battle in the middle of the large room. There was nothing I could do short of huddling close to the wall in hopes of avoiding the slashing claws and sharp teeth flying around the room.
I thought the white dragon was going to be victorious when a loud booming voice comes from the top of the stairs. Behind the two dragons stood an incredibly old man that should not be able to yell that loud. He must've been over 100 years old and dressed in a long golden night robe. Regardless, the man stomped down the stairs toward the dragons with an assertiveness that did not match his stature. He yelled something I didn't understand, and the two enemies instantly stepped apart. He seemed to ask the pair something in this strange language the dragons shared earlier and got too many answers at once. I'm pretty sure he scolded the both of them, then told the red dragon to leave, gesturing at a large ornate door to emphasize his point. After he was gone, the man continued the conversation with the remaining dragon. They both walked over to me, where I still sat frozen in fear of what I had just witnessed. I was in too much pain to move away, but I mentally prepared myself to have to fight for my life. The old man was the first to speak to me.
"It's okay little human. I won't hurt you. I apologize for Jonnor's unacceptable behavior and he will be punished for his actions. Now, would you answer some questions for me?" He asked me kindly. He seemed fairly trustworthy, but I wasn't about to move with some kind of explanation. Thank Merlin he can speak English. I decided to just nod.
"Wonderful!" He crouched down to sit on his knees, using the white dragon's head for balance. "Firstly, how did you get here?"
"I d-don't know." I stuttered nervously. The last two times I was this close to a dragon, things did not go well for me.
With my answer, the dragon next to the man looked at me confused, and then looked up at the old man as if searching for an answer. The elder simply shook his head in the negative and continued to question me.
"That's okay. What is the last thing you remember?"
"Just waking up in this huge room I didn't recognize. Aren't you people going to kill me now?" I had to remind myself why I was here. There was no way I'd be able to return to Hogwarts, even if I was to escape somehow.
"Of course not, boy. Why would we do that?" The man looked genuinely surprised and concerned at my question. "Once again I cannot apologize enough for your attacker's actions. Unfortunately, he is one of ours, but I will not hesitate to punish him for what he's done." At this point, the dragon was breathing heavily and had an angry look in its deep blue eyes. Once again, the man looked at the creature, somehow managing to tell him no with nothing but a strict expression. The dragon huffed in response and lay down in front of my feet. I couldn't help but jump away from the odd action, eliciting somewhat of a sad look from the dragon.
"I thought that's why I was here. Didn't they bring me here to be killed? I only left the room to try and find out where I was, but I should've known it was a trap." With that, the creature suddenly stood up and paced around the room, huffing and watching the two of us.
"Please ignore him. He is simply musing. I can assure you that you will be completely safe here in my home. I am only trying to find out how you came here." Before I could answer the dragon began to growl under his breath. The beast shakes his head back and forth in what seems like annoyance.
"Fatum, I said wait. Do not dare." The man said simply, without any explanation, keeping hard eyes on the pouting creature. The dragon then begins to morph in front of us. White scales dissolve into pale skin, bright blue eyes fade to gray, wings fold in on themselves, and an all too familiar platinum blond head of hair appears on the man that stands in place of the dragon. I haven't seen that platinum color since sixth year, and yet it was standing right in front of me.
"Malfoy?" I asked, suddenly finding my voice in the presence of a familiar face.
"Harry why did you leave the room? You could've been killed!" He comes over to me and helps me up. The old man does not look amused and sighs behind the blond. I wince when he puts his hands on my shoulders, but he doesn't notice.
"Malfoy. What. Is. Going. On." I say with more conviction. Malfoy didn't scare me even if he was some sort of freaky dragon-human thing.
"Do you not remember last night?"
He wasn't even looking at me. Instead, he was looking me up and down like some sort of frantic mother. For whatever reason, he was paying way too close attention to my neck. Now annoyed, I smacked his hand away, regaining his attention.
"What are you talking about? Did you do something to me?"
The old man interrupted whatever he was going to say. "Boys, please. We will find further explanation in my chambers in the morning. It is far too late to try to settle this in this moment. And we will be getting a full explanation. Right Fatum?" He gives Malfoy a hard stare to prove his point.
"Yes Father." Malfoy answers. Wait. Father? Fatum? "Come Harry. I'll explain everything tomorrow. You need to get some rest." He guides me through halls with a hand on my back to the same room I started in, stopping in front of the door.
"These will be your chambers for now. Please stay here until I come to get you in the morning. Go back to sleep, I'm sure you could use the rest. Good night, Harry." Just like that, Malfoy turns his back and starts to leave.
"Wait! Malfoy! That's it? No explanation? No tricks? Nothing? You're not even going to bother to try to explain what the hell I'm doing here. Or I don't know, why the hell you're some kind of dragon thing?"
"Everything will be clear in the morning. Father was right, it's very late and there is too much to discuss. What I can tell you for now is that I promise that you're safe here and will be from now on. Trust me, I know this is incredibly difficult to process but all I'm asking is that you trust me for the night. Can you do that Harry?" There was a look in the blonde's eyes that I had never seen before. It was a soft, honest expression without the trademark Malfoy sneer masking it. Then again, I haven't seen him in almost three years now.
"But wait. Why are you calling me Harry? And why are you being so nice to me?"
"This conversation won't be enough to convey all my thoughts. For now, I insist we put the past behind us. I've been a right prat in the past and I regret it terribly, but I've grown up since I left Hogwarts. I'd like to try to be friends for a change. I know there is a lot of ground to cover but I think the least I can do is use your first name to start. We can have a proper talk in the morning. I'm just glad you're safe. Are we done now?"
Satisfied, I nod. "Good night Ma- Draco." The name tastes funny on my tongue. He leaves down the hall and I go back into the room. It doesn't take me long to find the bed and settle in, prepared for a long rest I haven't gotten in a long time.
