The Letter
It was a day like any other. The sun, or in this case like thereof, was shining, and all was as it should be in Castle Oblivion. This meant that Vexen, as usual, was busy at work in his lab. He was in the process of cleaning up, for earlier on an experiment had gone awry, causing quite a mess. As he was moving some papers, he noticed a letter emblazoned with a seal that time had long forgotten. "How curious." he thought to himself, for he had never noticed a letter there before. He proceeded to pick up the letter and examine it. The letter felt old and worn in his hands, and yet strangely familiar. As he turned it over, he noticed the wax seal. Emblazoned in the wax was a heart, and when Vexen looked at it, he felt a pain deep in his chest. This startled him, for he had not felt pain in a long time. Ignoring said pain, he ripped the seal off the letter, and its contents fell to the floor. Immediately the pain subsided, as if it was never there to begin with. "Perhaps this was some puerile trick of Larxene's" he thought to himself, for it seemed that the seal was the source of the mysterious pain that he had been afflicted with. Picking up the contents of the letter, he expected to see the mocking hand of Larxene applauding him for getting over this little trick. Instead what he saw confused him. The hand in which the letter had been drafted was not Larxene's, but rather his own. He began to scan the contents of the letter, and phrases such as "I've gone too far." and 'My pride was the cause of all this." jumped out at him. Just as he was about to begin reading the letter properly, there was a knock at the door. "What is it?" he said, slightly annoyed at being disturbed. "A visitor has just entered the castle, and your presence is required." said the voice. "I'll be right there." said Vexen, but already he could hear the footsteps receding, and so his response fell on deaf ears. Pocketing the later for later, Vexen made his way towards the door, and for the moment all thoughts of the letter were pushed aside.
