Gotham City
I wander through the city streets, searching for my apartment building. I just left a late Theatre Production at Gotham North, that my friend Jessica is in. She had a main lead, and she told me it would mean the world if I went to see her. The only problem is getting home, my Mum was at home with Brielle, and I simply can't make her take a half an hour to get little Bri strapped into her car seat, for a five minute car ride. So I chose to walk.
The only problem with walking around alone in Gotham, is that night time is as they say, When the creeps come out. So here I am, walking around, downtown Gotham, at 11:00 pm.
I walk down the pathway, a shortcut to my house, and try to lighten the dark mood, by thinking about the nice comfy clothes I'll put on, and the bed I'll slide into when I get home.
But we all know something was going to go wrong, I hear a twig snap, and I whip around to see a burly thug, holding the stick he snapped in half. I back up, trying to get away from him, and I bump into another thug, this one skinnier. I turn to get away from these two, but two others step out from the shadows, these two holding crow bars, the other two holding baseball bats.
"Well hey there, ain't it a bit late for a little lady like yourself to be out right now?" the first guy says, with an obvious Jersey accent.
"Yeah, it must be past your bedtime." The fourth guy says, walking closer to me.
Now when my Mum told my Aunt about moving to Gotham, she sighed and said "If you ever get cornered, don't act afraid." But I gotta say, I am pretty scared right now, even if she taught me to fight.
I bet you're thinking, "Well that's great that your Aunt taught you some self-defense, maybe you can use it to get away, and let Batman and Robin cover the rest." Right? Wrong.
If you're thinking that, then you don't know my Aunt. I happen to be related to Dinah Lance, or as most know her, Black Canary. Yep, still think I should be worried? I don't, the only thing is, I was also taught to play off my strengths, and currently, one of them is to act like a damsel in distress.
"Please don't hurt me, I don't have any money." I say, that sounded whiney-er than I wanted…
"Well then this could be a problem…" thug number two says sighing and mock thinking to himself.
He narrowed his eyes and looked at me with an evil grin on his face, until he falls flat on his face.
I smirk as I realize who finally made their way here, Batman and Robin…or just Robin.
"You look like you could use some help." The Boy Wonder says to me, smirking slightly.
"Took you long enough…" I huff and grab a thugs hand, I twist his wrist, and spin him around to put his wrist near the back of his head, and then I kick him in the back.
"Hey, blame Bats he's the one that drove the Batmobile at speed limit," Robin says, chuckling quietly.
We quickly stand back to back, making sure no one can get behind us.
"What? To enforce the big laws-" I start, and block a punch from the last thug, Robin goes behind him and kicks his legs from under him, the crook lands on the ground with a thud, and Robin and I look at each other.
"You can't ignore the little ones. Exactly!" He says with a smile plastered on his face. "You did great." He says.
"Thanks for the help Pretty Boy, you did good too." I say and start walking away.
"Pretty Boy?" I hear him mutter as I walk the rest of the way home.
When I step through my front door, I almost fall over from the luggage in front of it. I climb my way over the bags and pillows, to see my mum looking over one last bag.
"Hey Mum why are you still up? You have a long drive ahead of you," I pause and look over at the clock sitting on the table, "Today. And you're gonna be up late like every night to get that theory worked out."
"I know, I know last minute packing." She says smiling lightly, "I do have a two month business trip to go to, I have to be prepared."
"Are you sure the guys at Star Labs are okay with you bringing a baby to their laboratory? I mean I could take care of her here…" I trail off, Mum knows I am capable of taking care of Brielle but she also knows I can't go out on missions with a baby in arms.
"I'm sure honey, now help me pack up the rest of the stuff on my list and I'll pretend I didn't see you walk in at 12 am." My mother says smiling at me, and handing me her list.
I take a quick glance at it and at the end I chuckle, seeing the words "Always be prepared."
After mentally singing 'Be Prepared' from the Lion King, I help my Mum pack and walk to my room.
I quickly change into my pajamas and sit on my bed, I smile lightly to the mirror across the room. My blonde hair falls just past my shoulders, and my blue eyes, have bags underneath them. I stand up, and sigh at my height, "Still 5'4."
I look to the chair by my desk, and see two uniforms. One for the school I will be attending soon, and one for the team I will be joining later today.
The school uniform is normal for the lovely Gotham Academy, that Bruce Wayne has invited me to, he payed my way actually. I'm an Art student, so he even hired a tutor for me in the classes I have trouble with.
As for the other uniform, it is a full black, with a royal blue bird taking flight on my side, complete with a domino mask. I look at both sets of clothing, and even though they are so different, and they will be used at different times; they both mean one thing. A new beginning.
