Christmas Cookies
"What smells so good?" Nick asked as he walked into the house.
"Cookies." The kids all exclaimed at once.
"Hi honey, we are making Christmas cookies. How was your day?" Jackie asked him.
"It was good." He responded.
"That's good." Jackie said.
"Can daddy have a cookie?" He asked the kids.
"No." Karlie responded.
"Daddy can't have a cookie?" He asked.
"No, they in there." Karlie said as she pointed at the oven.
"Oh I see, I can't have one because they aren't done yet, but once they get done can I have one?" He asked.
"Yeah, one dem." Karlie informed him.
"I can but I can only have one?"
"Yeah." Karlie said holding firm.
Nick looked over at Jackie and smiled.
She returned the smile and shook her head.
The oven dinged and the kids got really excited.
"Can we eat them now mommy?" Jasmine asked sounding hopeful.
"Well not yet, they have to cool off first and then we have to frost them." She told her.
All the kids groaned in unison.
Nick and Jackie both chuckled softly.
"Ok guys, go stand over by daddy while I take these out of the oven." She instructed.
They immediately went and stood by Nick.
Their little eyes lit up as Jackie took the cookies out of the oven.
Once Jackie had taken them out of the oven she turned and looked at the kids and she couldn't help but laugh, all of them were staring at the cookies longingly as if none of them had ever had a cookie before in their lives.
"Let's finish the next batch while we wait for those to cool off." She suggested to the kids, so their minds would be taken off eating the cookies at least for a bit.
All the kids gathered around to help her once again.
She dumped the cookie mix into her mixer but she accidently turned it onto the highest setting and cookie mix went all over the place.
The kids giggled hysterically.
Jackie was used to mishaps in the house with six kids milling about but this one was completely her fault, she couldn't even blame the kids.
She sighed and then cleaned up the mess.
After she was done she and the kids finished the second batch of cookies and then Jackie stuck them in the oven.
Pretty soon the first batch was ready to frost and the kids were elated.
They had fun covering all the cookies in frosting and then sprinkling them with different colored sprinkles.
After the cookies had been frosted came the children's most favorite part, eating them.
Jackie made the kids each sit down at the table and then she passed out a napkin to each of them before carefully laying a cookie on each of the napkins.
The kids had just started eating them when she looked at all of them and said "Hey guys, I have enough cookie dough here to make one more batch, would you like to help me?"
"No." All of them said as they continued to munch on their cookies.
Jackie laughed.
"It looks like Santa lost all of her helpers." Nick told Jackie with a smile as he came up to her and wrapped his arms around her.
"Looks that way, my little elves are not very good helpers." She responded.
He grinned at her.
"Would you like to help me?" She asked.
"Nope, I'm with the kids, I'm going to eat a cookie." He told her playfully.
"Just one." She told him with a smirk, reiterating what Karlie had been so firm about earlier.
He laughed, grabbed a cookie and took a bite. He then again walked over to her and put the cookie next to her mouth. She smiled and took a bite.
It had been a very nice afternoon, she loved getting to spend quality with the kids and the cookies turned out really good. She didn't even mind having to finish the last batch by herself!
The End!
