"To Be With You" by David Archuleta

"Are you feeling alright, Captain?"

Amelia jumped slightly, tearing her gaze from the Etherium to look at her helmsman. She hadn't realized how lost in her own thoughts she'd been.

"Yes, Mr. Longtern. I'm fine. Please return to your post."

Mr. Longtern hesitated, a bit alarmed at the fact that she'd said 'please'. But, he knew better than to ask what was the matter and simply saluted as he turned on his heel and walked away.

Amelia chewed her lip, swallowing thickly as her chest tightened and her eyes began to water. She took a deep breath and hurriedly walked to her stateroom. Once there, she sat in her chair at her desk and stared at the picture of she and Delbert in front of her. She picked it up and smiled sadly, her heart aching. They'd taken it only a month ago, Sarah insisting they savor the moment, even though they'd been on many dates before that one. They were smiling, Delbert's arm around her waist, his face beet red as he tried not to let Amelia's whispered comment make him blush any harder.

"Oh, Delbert…" she whispered, before letting out a long sigh and flipping the picture face down. She let out a frustrated grunt, locking her stateroom door before she turned on her heel and headed to bed. It wouldn't do much good to be exhausted and rest broken the next time her crew saw her.

On Montressor, Delbert sat in his observatory, his mind a blank canvas. He didn't want to think about anything… It hurt too much.

Standing, he set his cup of coffee down on his desk before crossing the room to his fireplace. His heart jumped at the sight of the multiple pictures of he and Amelia on the mantle. Sighing, he ran his finger over the edge of one of the frames. She was out there. Out there sailing among the stars... For who knows how long. He managed a small smile and let out a soft chuckle, remembering the way she'd almost refused to let him go before she had to leave the house.

"If only I could be with you..." He said softly. He knew the idea was impractical, what good would he be on the Legacy? All he'd do is get in her way.

But that didn't stop him from dreaming and wishing she would come back to him sooner. He hadn't been prepared for the agonizing ache he felt on a daily basis. They'd talked about how he might feel while she was away, but he was sure he would find things to do that would take his mind off of her.

But there were only so many textbooks he could read, only so many lectures he could give, only so many times he could help Sarah with the construction of the new Benbow…

Sarah had been concerned, but after Delbert assured her several times that he was 'just fine', she'd stopped asking and simply tried to keep her friend in good spirits until his favorite Felid captain returned.

He sighed, dousing the fire. There was nothing he nor anyone else could do about the situation tonight. Standing there feeling sorry for himself wouldn't help, and Amelia would be more than a little cross with him if he looked as exhausted as he felt when she returned.

Allowing himself to smile at the thought of her, Delbert went to bed.

A/N: Well this was sad. XD Review please!
