Disclaimer: I don't own the Hunger Games Gale just really fucking wants her. No, that's not it. Not quite; there's more. He wants to touch her, to hold her whenever he feels like it. He wants to hunt with her side by side, not one step behind. (Sometimes it feels like he'd have to walk a mile to catch up with her, if he's being honest.) Gale wants her to want him, really. That's what he tells himself, anyway, when she's kissing that boy who frosts the cakes in the window of the bakery. Gale tried to make something for her once, but he's better at destruction than creating beautiful things. (She's beautiful, he thinks.) Beautiful things are lies, and destroying something takes it to its most basic element; he likes seeing what things are like under the surface, and he thinks he'd like to see what the Districts are like at their cores. And she's back again, and she kisses him. Or he kisses her, he doesn't know and he doesn't care. (He's lying about that last part, but it's better for him not to think about it too hard.) As soon as she'd returned though, she lives again. She wants to tell him something, it seems like, and he lets himself believe that she wants him back. He's wrong. Gale's always wrong. Gale really just wants to be wanted by anybody (but that's another lie and he's getting really fucking sick of lying to himself). Madge doesn't do it for him, and she'd left him as soon as he mentioned his plan to start a rebellion. And later he thinks about Johanna Mason, but it's only for a few seconds, and clearly she's hung up on someone else. (Johanna wants Katniss too, she told him that once, when Katniss was on morphling and the two of them were just watching her sleep.) Gale isn't always wrong. Not even when the bombs go off. Not even when Rory is screaming that Prim has gone, and Posy won't speak to him anymore. Gale still wants her. He still wants to hold her, he still wants to kiss her and touch her. He wishes he still loved her, but that's gone now. He never did love anybody at the right time. Sometimes Gale is wrong. Sometimes, someone gets hurt. Sometimes everyone gets hurt. Sometimes, Gale gets hurt because Peeta and Katniss, they're together. He did love her, even when he said he didn't. (He'd been lying to himself for so long that he accepted it as truth. And yes, he was wrong sometimes (most of the time, really, he admits). And all that want from so long ago, that's still there. Except he knows what it is now. Gale finally understands what he's been asking from Katniss this whole time. And he doesn't really think it's too much (yes he does, because he knows her and he gets it, right before he closes his eyes for another night of dreaming of her). Gale wanted to be with her. And Katniss never wanted to be with anyone. (That's why it bothers him so much, the thought of Peeta touching her and kissing her and holding her; Gale was never enough to change her mind, but motherfucking Peeta was. And he's okay with that, if he's being honest with himself.) (But when has Gale ever been honest with himself?) Hope you enjoyed, reviews are appreciated!
