The Facets of Hiyoshi

Chapter One: Interest

The first time Atobe noticed him he was at his usual spot practicing long after everyone had gone home. He was by himself bruised and dirty striking a worn tennis ball against a wall in the same exact spot over and over again.

-

And Atobe watched it wear a mark onto its grainy surface.

-

But he didn't pay him any mind of course because why should he concern himself with the matters of others?

-

The second time he saw him he was gazing after Gakuto who hung off the arm of his tensai double's partner.

-

How interesting Atobe thought but still nothing to intrude on.

-

It was the third time that really got him fascinated in the boy though. It was just after he lost to Seigaku's first year regular. He saw the disbelief clouding his face followed by disappointment of losing. All too soon those flashes of emotions passed once he realized that Atobe was watching. He wouldn't forget it though. He really was an interesting person.

-

Pretty soon it was hard not to take notice of him. And why should he? He was the best candidate to take his place as Captain once he leaves. And so Atobe watch him pine after their acrobatic redhead. He watched him attempt to make a name for himself in front of their Coach's eye. He even had the privilege of seeing the full extent of his Gekokujou. Even through all this he didn't view him as anything more than a passing curiosity. Nothing more and nothing less.

-

That is until that one night…

-

Atobe had left some of his homework at school which was due tomorrow but rather than having his help get it for him he decided to fetch it himself. This wasn't too uncommon because he was known for being eccentric.

-

It was on his way back to his ride that he spotted him as the lights of the tennis courts showed him in all his glory. He stood heaving as droplets of sweat trailed down his glistening body. With a fluid movement he hit a tennis ball onto the opponent's court which lay empty save for the litter of balls that decorated it. He wiped his face with the aid of the dirty shirt he was wearing to clear the sweat and dirt that was entering his eyes. With eyes narrowed once more in determination he pulled another tennis ball that bulged from his pockets and served, each hit faster than the last.

-

Atobe couldn't help but get drawn into the scene. The pure drive that reflected in the tennis player's eyes seemingly responded to his own. It was when their eyes made contact with another that the moment passed as a surprised tennis player stopped his actions to acknowledge Atobe's presence. Atobe, never one to refuse an audience entered into the courts to greet his teammate. He offered him a fresh face towel from his bag which the student accepted.

-

Atobe studied him as he made use of the towel, the Captain's interest piquing even more.

-

"I have a proposition for you," Atobe said surprising the younger boy. The tennis player only stopped to look at him warily, his eyes quietly sizing up Atobe.

-

Oh yes Atobe confidently decided, Hiyoshi certainly was an interesting person.

A/N: Gah, I hate writing first chapters! I'll try to not make this long or it won't ever finish. 'Till then.
